5.6 What other health care services are there?
For advice on contraception you can contact your GP or a Family Planning Clinic. Details of
clinics in your area can be obtained from the Family Planning Association helpline (in
English), 0345 122 8687. Family Planning Services are free and strictly confidential.
If you have a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) you can see your GP or go to a free public
health clinic (known as GUM [Genito Urinary Medicine] clinic), which you can attend free of
charge and in complete confidentiality.
There are specialist sexual health clinics in each of the five Health and Social Care (HSC)
Trusts. Some clinics are by appointment only, so it is best to ring ahead.

5.7 Can I use interpreter services for health care?
Yes. You are entitled to a free, professional interpreter for health appointments. For a
scheduled appointment, an interpreter should be provided in person. If you did not make an
appointment or if it is an emergency, a telephone interpreting service may be used.
You have a right to an interpreter when using the health service. If you are not offered an
interpreter, ask for one. If you are refused an interpreter, seek advice.
