Session 2
Die Zellen der Zukunft in der
Anwendung
Welche
Technologien sind am vielversprechendsten?
Welche Systeme bringen die geringsten ökologischen
Probleme mit sich und können serienmäßig
zum Einsatz kommen?
The Cells of the
Future in Use
The battery is the centerpiece of an electric
vehicle. The performance and practical application
of all vehicles depends on it. The development
of high-performance batteries is
therefore of great importance for the success
of electric vehicles. This session addresses the
advances that have been made in the last years
and what can still be expected from the
development of batteries in the future. Which
systems are the most promising? Which pose
the smallest ecological threat and can be
mass-produced for use?
VARTA Micro Innovation GmbH
Stefan Koller ist Geschäftsführer der Varta Micro Innovation
GmbH.
Stefan Koller is the managing director of Varta Micro Innovation
he also received his doctorate. He was an assistant and later
head of the lithium ion battery research group at the Institute
for Chemistry and Technology of Materials at the TU Graz.
Steven
Dorresteijn
ABB Sales Manager Europe,
Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure
Steven Dorresteijn is the Sales Manager for Europe at the Electric
Vehicle Charging Infrastructure at ABB which was originally
Epyon B. V., a startup company founded in January 2001. He
studied mechanical engineering at Delft University of Technology
in the Netherlands. His career began in 1983 in the production
of cathode ray rubes at Royal Philipps Electronic, where
he later became a product manager. He moved on to the
Ford Motor Company in 1996, where he worked in strategic
purchasing before returning to the Netherlands in 2000.
The increasing European market penetration of electric vehicles
and the different charging standards make it easy to
become confused. The question of how to build a charging
network infrastructure that satisfies the needs of all users and
all those involved while making sensible use of the necessary
investment is a central issue. A massive expansion of useroriented
charging infrastructure is required to make the use
of electric cars as comfortable and attractive as it should be.
Univ.-Prof. Dr.
Rüdiger-A.
Eichel
Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH
Rüdiger-A.
hoher Energiedichte. In diesem Zusammenhang übertreffen
Metall-Luft-Batterien die derzeitig verwendeten Lithium-Ionen-Batterien
um eine Größenordnung. Die bisher am weitesten
erforschte Lithium-Luft-Zelle hat allerdings mit Sicherheitsbedenken
zu kämpfen. Als alternatives System findet die
kürzlich entwickelte Silizium-Luft-Zelle immer mehr Beachtung,
da die verwendeten Rohmaterialien in großer Menge
vorhanden sind und die ablaufende Elektrochemie äußerst
robust gegenüber Luftfeuchtigkeit ist.
Rüdiger-A. Eichel is the “Materials and Processes for Energy
Conversion and Storage” chair at the RWTH Aachen, and the
director of the Institute for Energy and Climate Research at the
Jülich Research Center. Professor Eichel studied physics at the
University of Cologne and received his doctorate at the ETH Zurich.
His current research interests include the further development
of current energy storage systems in high-performance
intercalation batteries and also address visionary concepts for
conversion batteries with greatly improved energy density.
A central aspect in the further development of electric mobility
is making high-performance energy storage systems with
high energy density available. Metal/air batteries are a class
above the currently used lithium ion batteries in this respect.
However, the lithium/air cell that has been researched most
extensively to date is still struggling with safety issues. The
recently developed silicon/air battery is receiving greater attention
since the used raw materials are available in large
amounts and the running electrochemistry is extremely resistant
to air humidity.
