Experiencing what ELSA really means
Hungary, 29.09.2007 — ELSA was founded in order to create an international association of law students and young
lawyers, which is home in whole Europe. A community which is, across borders uniting its members into a big community,
based on common values and respect.

ELSA organizes its programmes to make
its members experience ELSAs values in
several ways. We organize bilateral Study
Visits, international conferences; we provide
traineeships abroad and many more.
However, we also do our work on a national level; but when
we do this, we always keep our international basis in mind . A
very good example of this motivation was the National Council
Meeting of ELSA Hungary taking place in a beautiful city in the
South, Szeged, in the autumn of 2008.
We are so grateful that Daniël Sterenborg, Vice President Seminars
& Conferences of ELSA Germany (2007-2008) accepted
our invitation and attended our NCM. The author of this article
had the chance to conduct a joint S&C and AA workshop together
with Daniël. To mention three great aspects of Daniël’s
participation, I would say: meeting an officer of another NB,
getting an international approach to the issues discussed and
receiving many new inputs.
additionally we may want to see how it looks like from another
point of view, how other boards try to sort out the same issue.
Daniël is obviously one of the smartest and most active members
of ELSA with solid and widespread knowledge of the association.
That´s why he was able to give us a lot of new input. Not
only certain advise, but also completely new and different ideas,
concepts and ways of thinking.
ELSA means experience. All of the participants of the workshop
where able to take the knowledge, the memorable experience
and a better understanding of ELSA with them. And also felt
why it is great to be a member of this international association of
law students. I hope not only us, but Daniël enjoyed the NCM
in Szeged and will come back soon to Hungary as Director of
ELSA International.
Just to mention great aspects
The board members of every single ELSA group developed and
still improve a very strong basis of knowledge: simply by the fact
that every local or national group has its own paradigms, techniques
to attain the certain aims, procedures etc. That is why we
can learn so much by meeting an officer of such a great national
board as ELSA Germany is.
Every issue of the everyday operation of ELSA has many various
aspects; most of the time one can’t see all of them. For instance,
we can probably see which measures we have to implement in
order to increase our members’ interest in ELSA delegations, but
