ternoon we had the second part of the workshop, which was very
interesting: we had to develop a strategy for the fight against
International Crime. At the beginning we were stunned: how
could it be possible? Marie Storbeck knew how to make us work
and it came out we were a very efficient team! We first found the
crimes we think should be punished harder, like environmental
crimes, human trafficking, offences crimes punished with more
than five years, crimes against minorities that live in different
EU countries, money laundering. It was very interesting how
and why the different proposals came from each of us: it underlined
the different ways we have to study in different universities
from all over Europe. Then we thought about how to prevent
crimes.
We all agreed that crime prevention is not only a matter of having
our street patrolled by policemen, but even of education and
culture of respecting law. We spoke about some precautions we
take everyday to defend each other and it turned out that we
came from areas with a different safety level. Then we discussed
about how the different National and International law enforcement
agencies could communicate and cooperate together – but
we have not solved the problem put up by Marie Storbeck: in
which language should the policemen speak? How many languages
are they supposed to know? But the time was running
fast and we had to get finished with the speech: and we did it
on time. Philipp Stump did his speech on Sunday morning. The
whole team spent the night with him to rehears the speech. I am
sure he did a great job, though I was not there: my plane was
leaving early on Sunday morning.
Personally very satisfied
The Muenster Eurocrip was celebrated as an awesome, but regular,
ELSA event. We had a lot of time to study, even to socialize.
We spent most of the time at the Castle. During the coffee
breaks between debates and workshops we walked around the
fantastic botanic garden, that was right behind the castle. If the
weather was chilly, we were inside: the OC arranged coffee, tea,
orange juice, chocolate cookies and water. Those moments were
very nice: German sweets taste very well and getting together
with the OC and the other participants was very pleasant. If the
coffee break was a little longer than fifteen minutes, we went
downtown to take some pictures or to buy postcards. Muenster
is such a pretty town that it would have been a pity not to visit it
properly. I really enjoyed riding the bike all along the park and
the canal. At night we had dinner all together, the professors
joined us. On friday night the OC took us to the spring fever
party: we enjoyed typical German food, spent parts of the night
chatting on the terrace with a fantastic view on the lake. Then,
by the time the weather got chilly we got in and a very nice
dance music was put up. We danced all night long: luckily the
OC drove us back to the camp: it was a little to late and dark to
walk. On saturday night every workshop group stood together:
everyone was busy with rehearsing the speech and get ready for
the questions participants and guests might have the day after.
We all wanted to finish by the end of the dinner to enjoy the tour
in Muenster with the watchmen. It was very nice to take such
a walking tour: the tour guide showed us hidden places and explained
things you would not notice taking a superficial look.
I am personally very satisfied with the Seminar “A Common
European Criminal Procedure”. After taking part I decided that
I will graduate from law university with a thesis named “Instruments
to fight International Crime coordinated by Italian law”.
It was a very good experience, I hope the Muenster OC will organize
this seminar once again to give the chance to more people
to have such an experience and challenge.
