Das Lauterbrunnental im UNESCO Welterbe Schweizer Alpen
alpbahn qui représente le plus long trajet en

19,3 kilomètres et vous emmène jusqu’à la
Kleine Scheidegg à 2061 mètres d’altitude, soit
en longeant le village de Wengen ou le pied de
la mythique paroi nord de l’Eiger. Les voyageurs
changent de train à la Kleine Scheidegg pour
emprunter la voie ferrée à crémaillère de la
Jungfraubahn (métrique de bout en bout) qui
parcourt 9,3 kilomètres et comporte les stations:
Eigergletscher (glacier de l’Eiger), Eigerwand
(paroi de l’Eiger) et Eismeer (mer de glace).
Les jours de pointe, la Jungfraubahn effectue
jusqu’à 110 trajets aller-retour en train entre la
Kleine Scheidegg et le Jungfraujoch transportant
alors jusqu’à 5 000 passagères et passagers
ainsi que de nombreuses tonnes de marchandises.
Déjà fascinés avant le départ, les passagères et
passagers admirent les trois géants de glace et
de roche que forment l’Eiger, le Mönch et la

be considered. Even at the time of granting the
concession to railway pioneer Adolf Guyer-
Zeller in 1894, a medical expedition into the
high mountains had to be undertaken to prove
that operating a railway at such altitudes would
have no ill effects on passengers.
The journey to the Jungfraujoch, often a highlight
of a European tour, is also to some degree
part of the objective. The trip is made via Lauterbrunnen
or Grindelwald, both of which can be
reached by Bernese Oberland Railway as well as
by road – not to mention on foot. The trip continues
by Wengernalp Railway, with 19.3 kilometres
the longest stretch of cogwheel railway
in Switzerland, either via the village of Wengen
or along the foot of the famous-infamous Eiger
North Wall to Kleine Scheidegg at 2061 metres
above sea level. Here you change to the 9.3-
kilometre, 1-metre-gauge cogwheel section of
the Jungfrau Railway with its Eigergletscher
(Eiger Glacier), Eigerwand (Eiger Wall) and Eismeer
(Sea of Ice) stations. On peak days the
Jung frau Railway makes up to 110 journeys
between Kleine Scheidegg and the Jungfraujoch
in both directions, transporting up to 5000
passengers and many tonnes of goods.
Even before departure, guests gaze in awe at
the three giants of ice and rock; the Eiger,
Mönch & Jungfrau. The views here, directly at
the foot of the famous Alpine peak, the Jungfrau,
are simply breathtaking. Anyone who can
afford the time should take a break here to let
the high-Alpine landscape inspire body and
soul. During the summer the trains run to a
half-hourly schedule.

impressions in the high-Alpine world of
the Jungfraujoch, some visitors take a nap on
