High above the glacier village
There are few places in the Alps where
glaciers penetrate so deep into the valley
as Grindelwald. The best overview is from
First. The popular excursion destination is
reached by an enthralling aerial gondola ride.
First is easy to reach by aerial gondola from
Grindelwald. It offers stunning views of Grindelwald’s
glacier world and the imposing Alpine
peaks. Particularly popular attractions are the
hike to idyllic Lake Bachalpsee, theme trails such
as the Flower Trail and Marmot Nature Trail, as
well as the high-Alpine trail to the Faulhorn
summit and on to Schynige Platte. First has an
attraction to suit each and every excursion requirement.
Visitors will find over 200 kilometres
of good hiking trails from easy to demanding,
through unique moorland landscapes and lush
alp meadows.

Lake Bachalpsee
It’s impossible to imagine anything more
idyllic in the Swiss mountain world than the
area around Lake Bachalpsee. The crystal-clear
waters reflect the snow-covered Alpine peaks.
The Schreckhorn group with its sheer walls and
the two Grindelwald glaciers make a powerful
impression even on the way to the lake. The
hike, at over 2000 metres above sea level, takes
almost two hours there and back.
First Flyer
An 800-metre-long steel cable, up to 50 metres
above ground at speeds of up to 80 kilometres
per hour – the First Flyer promises thrills galore.
Passengers sit safely strapped into a special
harness on the rapid run down from First to
Schreckfeld, with the descent stopped by a
shock-absorbing construction. Up to four persons
can hurtle down on the giant zip lines at
the same time. The facility is open in summer
and winter and can be used by anyone weighing
between 35 and 125 kilos.
Scooter-bike
The trendy city transport has reached cult status
in the mountains. The First aerial cableway
offers a family attraction that makes cows moo
in amazement. Our tip: break your downhill
journey at the Bort intermediate station and
travel the rest of the way to Grindelwald by
scooter-bike. The stretch is 4.5 km long and
completely surfaced. Using a scooter-bike needs
no previous experience.
LOWA Test Centre on First
The best and most comfortable way to hike is
with good footwear. And so Jungfrau Railways
and hiking-boot manufacturer LOWA have
teamed up to provide a hiking-boot test centre
at the top stations on Schynige Platte and First.
Anyone can get advice and borrow hiking boots
from the wide assortment to test for a day –
naturally free of charge and without any obligation.

Jeden Freitag um 13.00 Uhr trifft man sich
bei der Bergstation First und wandert
via Waldspitz nach Bort. Diese Blumenwanderung
findet bei jedem Wetter statt
und kostet CHF 10.– pro Person.
