schnell aufbauen und auch
während der Fahrt einfach
zu bedienen sind. Zu den
geplanten integrierten Apps
zählen Google Lokale
Suche und Wetter sowie die
Möglichkeit, eine zuvor am
PC per Google Maps konfigurierte
und zum Auto gesendete
Route herunterzuladen.
„Weitere Mercedes-Benz
Apps werden sukzessive
eingeführt und können dann
von allen Kunden genutzt
werden“, gibt Amelung einen
Ausblick.
Um neue Funktionen
ergänzt wurde ebenso die
Navigation von COMAND
Online. Neu ist unter anderem
die 3D-Optik mit plastischen
Stadt-Modellen. Dass
Mercedes-Fahrer trotz neuer
Straßen oder geänderter
Streckenführung immer zuverlässig
ans Ziel kommen,
liegt an einem besonderen
Service. „Mercedes-Benz
Kunden in Europa erhalten
drei Jahre lang kostenlos
die aktuellsten Karten für
ihr Multimedia-System
COMAND Online“, berichtet
Amelung. „Dabei spielen die
Mercedes-Benz Partner im
Rahmen eines Händlerbesuchs
Kartenupdates auf
das Navigationssystem.“ •
Improved operating convenience,
larger displays,
new functions and, for the
first time, internet access,
are among the main innovations
included in the new
telematics equipment from
Mercedes-Benz – which is
available in the new C-Coupé.
The Bluetooth functions
have also been enhanced:
the phone book can now be
transferred en bloc from the
mobile phone as soon as it is
connected, and text messages
received can be shown on
the colour display.
Denise Amelung works
on the Telematics product
management team at Mercedes-Benz,
where she is responsible
for the head units
for the new generation of
telematics. She knows just

how much detailed work
goes into each of the various
features. How does Mercedes-Benz
make sure that
the phone book function
works with every mobile
telephone? “By doing a lot of
testing with lots of different
mobile phones”, explains
Amelung. “One of the problems
that we have is that the
standardised Bluetooth profiles
used by mobile phone
manufacturers all work differently.”
The company therefore
offers an internet service
site at www.mercedes-benz.
com/connect where Mercedes
drivers can find information
about the best way to
configure and use their mobile
phone in conjunction
with their specific vehicle.
But it’s not only the many
different models of mobile
phones that create complexity.
As Amelung tells us:
“The developers also have to
test a whole range of audio
players, SD cards and USB
storage devices with all sorts
of different formats.”
For business purposes
only of course, the development
team have also been
surfing the web, for the
COMAND Online multimedia
system now, for the first
time, offers internet access.
Customers can either browse
freely while the vehicle is
stationary or utilise a Mercedes-Benz
App, the pages of
which load particularly rapidly,
making them easy to
use even when the vehicle is
on the move. Among the
planned integrated Apps are
Google Local Search and
weather information as well
as downloading a route preconfigured
at the user’s PC
via Google Maps. “More Mercedes-Benz
Apps will be
added gradually and will
then be available for use by
all customers” promises
Amelung.
The navigation system
in COMAND Online has also
been enhanced with new
features. These include a 3D
effect with graphic representations
of city views. The
fact that Mercedes drivers
always reach their destination,
despite new roads or
changed routing, is down to
another special service.
“Mercedes-Benz customers
in Europe receive the latest
map updates for their
COMAND Online multimedia
system free of charge for
three years”, reports Amelung.
“This simply involves
your Mercedes-Benz service
partner uploading a map update
to the navigation system
during a visit to the
dealership.” •
