unserem Wettbewerb teilnehmen, Kontakt aufzunehmen,
In welchen Kategorien
werden die Filme bewertet und wie
dustry by profession, but a corporate film producer.
The path I’ve chosen, therefore, is both very difficult
and interesting at the same time. I talk to a lot of
partners to become a fully fledged industry member.
I think people respect me for my ability to listen
to and think like a representative of the tourism sector.
I don’t speak a lot but act instead.
E.K.: It’s difficult to imagine authorities not
willing to promote their own region or cities
at the world’s largest ITB travel show in Berlin
or not having a promotional film in their
arsenal. I think people from all over the world
want to participate in this event. How many
entries do you have and what categories are
they judged in? · W.H.: Unfortunately, I can’t fully
agree with you on this point. Some managers are
not aware of the importance of film or the impact
it may have. Since we don’t have sponsors, nor
do we receive any government grants, we have
to find the funds ourselves to pay for the equipment
and personnel. This is why the entrants are
charged a fee of EUR 500. I’m sure many marketing
departments ask themselves the question
whether they should take part in the festival. The
Golden City Gate is very important however, not
only domestically but also internationally, regardless
of the amount of the entrance fee. At this point
I have to stress the fact that the motion picture is
worth more than a thousand words, because it
evokes emotions. Unfortunately, many marketing
departments of hotels, cities and states don’t
take advantage of the multitude of opportunities to
use their productions in order to reach their target
audiences. It’s not enough to say that our film is
on TV or you can find it on YouTube. I can easily
show you how it can be utilized at a POS.
In order to facilitate the work of the 40-member
jury, we created 10 categories, in which the entrants
are judged. In 2001 we started with five
films from three countries. By 2010 this number
had grown to 97 films. The growing popularity of
the category Print Campaigns (which we started
as early as 1998) is also a good evidence that
our event is gaining more and more recognition
around the world. In 2010 the winning productions
in that category came from Malaysia, Poland
and India. In 2011 we are offering 10 categories,
including two new ones. In response to
the requests from national tourist organizations
and hotels, we expanded categories, adding
Websites displaying advertising banners, and an
interesting category called Music.
At the award ceremony I was most pleased with
seeing who attended it - ministers, ambassadors,
face to face
