„Oh you joyful, Oh you blessed“, oh what
wonderful Christmas sounds do we hear
welcoming us from the Maritim Playa as
we come nearer. A smiling Santa greets us
with a smile while playing the street organ....
Oh you joyful.
As we step into Maritim Playa, we step
into a Christmas world. Nearly 500 fairy
lights, 22 huts and countless decorations
are draped around the pool area of the
hotel. Gran Canaria? Sun? Dust?.... this
is quickly forgotten. Responsible for this
impressive illusion is Margit, who with
her love for detail makes us completely
forget we are in fact celebrating Christmas
under palm trees. A Christmas market in
Gran Canaria... with mulled wine, roasted
chestnuts, caramelised almonds and waffles
... it is an experience you must have
lived once.
Every advent weekend, many locals come
to visit the lovely Maritim Playa, to get into
the Christmas mood and to meet friends
and neighbours. „We are especially proud
of the fact that after 9 years the Canarios
still enjoy our Christmas market. They are
curious and try mulled wine, punch and
egg liqueur.“ Margit Christ explains.
40,000 – 50,000 tourists and locals alike
visit the atmospheric ambience in Maritim
Playa throughout the 4 advent weekends.
It is a great Christmas illusion, which the
family Christ does a lot to keep up. It encompasses
22 craftsmen who present their
largely self made selection of goods. Every
year the craftsmen are carefully selected.
We are marvelling at the many Christmas
huts, especially built for this occasion,
and which are provided free of charge to
the craftsmen. Staff is everywhere caring
for the customers, creating the Christmas
atmosphere and ensures everything runs
smoothly. Suddenly, a Christmas song can
be heard from above... we recognise that
voice. Detlef Cremer stands up high on the
balcony and singing the classic Christmas
songs we so like to hear during this season.
Strolling, we continue across the market
and enjoy the diverse craftsmanship - a
perfect opportunity to find unique Christmas
presents and decorations. But of
course, MUYBIEN is always looking for a
culinary treat and we assure you that we
have been extremly successful.
There are sweets including roasted almonds,
berliners, roasted chestnuts and
Christmas stollen all the way to hearty
meals for the hungry. Can you imagine
that here every year up to 10,000 sausages,
1000kg port roast and 500l goulash
soup are eaten? Or that over 5000 litres of
mulled wine run down our throats?
However, our highlight is not the mulled
wine this year, instead it’s the hot chocolate
with a shot and a hint of mint... a must
for After-Eight lovers! A big thank you to
the Maritim Playa chef Alex for this wonderful
concoction.
A pleasant evening is nearing the end. But
since at Christmas, the Christian charity,
should not go by forgotten (and above all,
should be obeyed) we decide to buy a few
more tickets for the Christmas raffle.
Every Sunday the raffle takes place to support
a good cause. For years, the family
Christ and its team have supported the
charity “Avanzar Sur”. All employees donate
their Christmas present and all proceeds
of the raffle go to charity.
We could still tell so much about this wonderful
place. The family atmosphere that
exudes the hotel and the team, the good
mood that embraces you ... The actual
Christmas feeling you did not expect, at
all. But you better have a look yourself –
it’s free entrance.
