The family of Shari I
But what has become of the old German
foundation horses? Wiszkha's and Rualla's
families have died out, Inazzah's blood is
found only indirectly in the broodmare band
through a stallion.
But there was another foundation mare who
was there before the Achental horses: the
Marbach-bred Shari I (Hadban Enzahi / Haita).
And that's a true success story. The stud
owes its greatest successes to her and there
is still no end in sight. Her family runs like a
red thread through the history of the stud up
to the present day.
Shari I was a broodmare that most can only
dream of. She produced two colts (both of
which were licensed) for her previous owner,
but after she moved to the Ismer Stud, she
produced nine daughters in a row. The fact
that eight of them remained as broodmares
at the stud illustrates the high esteem in
which this family is held. Not all were equally
successful, but four of them established
their own families, three of which are still in
existence today.
Shaika, born in 1968, was sired by Wisznu,
combining Weil-Marbach and Achental
lines. She also produced two licensed
stallions and six daughters, three of which
joined the herd. The most important was
Exessa (by Emin), born in 1983, with her seven
daughters. Six mares and two stallions
in today's stock come from her dam line, all
via Exelsia (Madkours Impuls / Exquita (by
Penthagonn out of Exessa)). Exelsia can confidently
be called the ultimate Ismer mare:
her sire is by Madkour I tailing back to the
Achentaler Inazzah family, her dam is from
the Shari family with a lot of Polish blood.
Exelsia is the dam of the European Reserve
Champion IS Exxpu, who descends from the
"fashionable" stallion QR Marc, but looks
very much like his maternal pedigree. He
has already proved himself as a sire and his
daughter IS Et Tu is one of the most beautiful
mares in the stud. Another of them is
the Exelsia granddaughter IS Ella Nora (El
Mariachi / IS Exentrica by Saphir III), who is
also proving to be a top broodmare. Her first
foal IS Etalon (by Pallaton K) is in the stallion
barn today; true to family tradition, all
four foals since then have been fillies. Exelsia

herself died far too early, shortly after giving
birth to her fifth foal. This was also a filly: IS
Exposa (by Poseidon OS), who took her place
in the broodmare band last year, and who
has produced two daughters already. There
is no way around this family at the Ismer
Stud.
The Shari I daughters Shaila, Sharia, and
Shiwa were full sisters, all by Ghazal. Today,
Shaila's family is represented by her
great-granddaughter IS Sheyka (IS Orlow
/ IS Sheya (by Madkours Impuls out of Shewala)),
who also has a lot of "old" blood in
her pedigree. Sharia's branch lasted until the
early 2000s but is currently inactive.
That leaves Shiwa, probably the best-known
Shari I daughter, who caused a stir in the
1980s with her Madkour I offspring. Everyone
who attended the second Arabian
show in Aachen in 1980 remembers her son
Mashour. He could not be overlooked because
he (like his father) was already snow-white
in his first year of life, but also because he
was of outstanding quality. Mashour had
a stellar career, was licensed and awarded
with a premium, was a star of the international
show scene with countless titles, and a
successful sire on top of that. One can confidently
say that this stallion set standards
