The TOEFL is the standard American test for testing English language skills of
non-native speakers. It is not only obligatory for students wishing to study in the
US, but is also increasingly demanded as an entry requirement for internationally
oriented Master programmes in Germany and around the world. A good result
may also be used as a standard reference in the CV.
The objective of the course is to familiarize the students with the testing format of
the TOEFL ibt test in order to prepare them to pass the test successfully. The
students will get practice in taking the different parts of the test and also develop
a strategic approach in preparing for and taking the test.
After taking a model test at the beginning of the course, each student will develop
an individual learning programme to improve his/her English skills.
Introductory part:
- Investigation into the structure of the test
- How do I register for the test?
- What alternative tests are on offer and how do the tests compare?
- For what purpose will I have to take the TOEFL test?
- Test results and their validity
Main part:
- The course will mainly focus on the four different sections of the test:
reading, writing, listening and speaking
and will offer ample opportunity for exercise in these fields.
If necessary, this may also include the revision of very selected chapters of
grammar.
Active participation in class and written examination (90 min).
Only the internal test at FH Ingolstadt will be accepted for passing the course.
A recognition of the “real” external TOEFL results is not possible.

Students are advised to buy the book in order to be able to write in it. This will not
be allowed for the books from the library.
