Oldham Lifelong Learning Service can offer you indivdual advice and guidance to help you with your employment related
needs. Some examples of specific courses are listed below, and you will find full details of these in the course listings
within this brochure.
Courses with a qualification
Maths and English – gaining national qualifications
Are you looking to improve your Maths or English skills? We have a range of courses available which are held throughout
the week (Monday – Saturday) that enable you to study at your own pace. These courses are ideal for brushing up on
your skills or gaining a certificate in Maths and English to help you improve your employment prospects.
Fast track ESOL for work (English for speakers of other languages)
If you are on Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or Employment Support Allowance (ESA) you may like to attend an Intensive
speaking and listening course for 1 day a week over an eight week period. On completion, there will be a further
opportunity to progress onto an Intensive reading and writing course 2 days a week over an eight week period. These
courses will give you the speaking, listening, reading and writing skills needed to improve your job prospects.
Information Technology
We have a broad range of IT courses to suit absolute beginners as well as those ready for full level 2 qualifications. In
addition, short courses in keyboard skills, internet, email, desktop publishing, spreadsheets and databases will enable
you to gain specific skills. Qualification courses are available at entry level, level 1 and level 2. Our ITQ workshops can
accommodate learners working to a level 1 qualification and you can join these at any stage of the year.
ICT, Skills for Jobs
A weekly workshop that will equip you with the skills to search online for jobs, create a CV or complete a job application
and use email. You may also get your skills accredited and gain an ITQ1 unit certificate or NCFE Award in Making
Progress.
ICT, Award in Making Progress
This course will enable you to improve your ICT skills. You will assess your current skills and set appropriate ICT goals that
you would like to achieve.
Computerised accounts using Sage Pitmans, Level 1
A course with a qualification where you will learn basic accounting theory alongside computer skills using Sage Line 50
v12.
ICT, First award in ICT (pre level 1)
A course with a qualification which comprises four units: word processing, searching for information, graphs and charts
and using email. This course is a stepping stone towards ITQ1.
ITQ1 certificate
You will start on the Pre-ITQ1 4 week course and then join the ITQ1 course. This is a qualification with a choice of units
including: keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, PowerPoint presentations, desk top publishing, email
and internet. This qualification is recognised by employers nationally and is ideal for improving existing job performance,
finding a new job, or simply using today’s technology more efficiently.
Workshop learners will enrol on a roll on roll off basis completing the course within a maximum of 80 hours. This course is
a stepping stone towards ITQ2.
ITQ2
You will start on the Pre-ITQ2 4 week course and then join the ITQ2 course. This is a full level 2 qualification which will give
you enhanced ICT skills. You will use European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) units to achieve an ECDL Extra full level
2 qualification.
