<strong>Oldham</strong> Lifel<strong>on</strong>g <strong>Learning</strong> Service can offer you indivdual advice and guidance to help you with your employment related<br />
needs. Some examples of specific courses are listed below, and you will find full details of these in the course listings<br />
within this brochure.<br />
Courses with a qualificati<strong>on</strong><br />
Maths and English – gaining nati<strong>on</strong>al qualificati<strong>on</strong>s<br />
Are you looking to improve your Maths or English skills? We have a range of courses available which are held throughout<br />
the week (M<strong>on</strong>day – Saturday) that enable you to study at your own pace. These courses are ideal for brushing up <strong>on</strong><br />
your skills or gaining a certificate in Maths and English to help you improve your employment prospects.<br />
Fast track ESOL for work (English for speakers of other languages)<br />
If you are <strong>on</strong> Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or Employment Support Allowance (ESA) you may like to attend an Intensive<br />
speaking and listening course for 1 day a week over an eight week period. On completi<strong>on</strong>, there will be a further<br />
opportunity to progress <strong>on</strong>to an Intensive reading and writing course 2 days a week over an eight week period. These<br />
courses will give you the speaking, listening, reading and writing skills needed to improve your job prospects.<br />
Informati<strong>on</strong> Technology<br />
We have a broad range of IT courses to suit absolute beginners as well as those ready for full level 2 qualificati<strong>on</strong>s. In<br />
additi<strong>on</strong>, short courses in keyboard skills, internet, email, desktop publishing, spreadsheets and databases will enable<br />
you to gain specific skills. Qualificati<strong>on</strong> courses are available at entry level, level 1 and level 2. Our ITQ workshops can<br />
accommodate learners working to a level 1 qualificati<strong>on</strong> and you can join these at any stage of the year.<br />
ICT, Skills for Jobs<br />
A weekly workshop that will equip you with the skills to search <strong>on</strong>line for jobs, create a CV or complete a job applicati<strong>on</strong><br />
and use email. You may also get your skills accredited and gain an ITQ1 unit certificate or NCFE Award in Making<br />
Progress.<br />
ICT, Award in Making Progress<br />
This course will enable you to improve your ICT skills. You will assess your current skills and set appropriate ICT goals that<br />
you would like to achieve.<br />
Computerised accounts using Sage Pitmans, Level 1<br />
A course with a qualificati<strong>on</strong> where you will learn basic accounting theory al<strong>on</strong>gside computer skills using Sage Line 50<br />
v12.<br />
ICT, First award in ICT (pre level 1)<br />
A course with a qualificati<strong>on</strong> which comprises four units: word processing, searching for informati<strong>on</strong>, graphs and charts<br />
and using email. This course is a stepping st<strong>on</strong>e towards ITQ1.<br />
ITQ1 certificate<br />
You will start <strong>on</strong> the Pre-ITQ1 4 week course and then join the ITQ1 course. This is a qualificati<strong>on</strong> with a choice of units<br />
including: keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, PowerPoint presentati<strong>on</strong>s, desk top publishing, email<br />
and internet. This qualificati<strong>on</strong> is recognised by employers nati<strong>on</strong>ally and is ideal for improving existing job performance,<br />
finding a new job, or simply using today’s technology more efficiently.<br />
Workshop learners will enrol <strong>on</strong> a roll <strong>on</strong> roll off basis completing the course within a maximum of 80 hours. This course is<br />
a stepping st<strong>on</strong>e towards ITQ2.<br />
ITQ2<br />
You will start <strong>on</strong> the Pre-ITQ2 4 week course and then join the ITQ2 course. This is a full level 2 qualificati<strong>on</strong> which will give<br />
you enhanced ICT skills. You will use European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) units to achieve an ECDL Extra full level<br />
2 qualificati<strong>on</strong>.<br />
