You have just taken the first step on the pathway to learning by choosing to read
the Lifelong Learning prospectus.
This prospectus lists courses available to you and gives you information about the
centres we teach in and the support services and facilities we provide. These are
our pre-planned courses. In addition, throughout the year, we offer other learning
opportunities in response to local need. Watch out for further information.
You may want to study towards a qualification that will help you to progress in
your career or you might be one of the many learners who join our courses to
learn a new skill and gain employment.
We will support you on every step of your learning journey. You can read about
some of our learners’ experiences and achievements alongside the information
of the courses and services we offer. Some of our learners are proud to say that
they have changed their lives by joining a Lifelong Learning course.

Mission Statement
Head, Oldham Lifelong Learning Service
Oldham Lifelong Learning Service seeks to create opportunities and reduce barriers enabling adults to
study and learn. It positively works to provide local lifelong learning opportunities to enable all learners
to improve their confidence, develop their knowledge, skills and creativity and to realise their potential.
The Service will consult its communities, learners and partners to ensure that it responds to changing
local needs and demands whilst continuously improving the quality of its provision.
Ofsted Outstanding, Grade 1
In June 2009 Ofsted carried out a formal inspection of Oldham Lifelong Learning Service.
We were found to be Outstanding in all of the areas inspected.

Beacon
The Service was awarded Learning and Skills Beacon status on 4 March 2010 in recognition
of its exemplary work. The national Beacon awards are designed to recognise excellence
and innovation within the further education system. The scheme highlights excellent learning
providers that consistently deliver high-quality teaching and are supported by effective
leadership and management.
Matrix Standard of Quality
The Matrix Standard is the national quality standard for any organisation that delivers
information, advice and guidance on learning and work. In March 2010 the Service
was successfully re-assessed to the standard, which it has held since 2004.
