Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools and Childcare Achieve the qualifications you need to work with children and young people in a teaching assistant or childcare capacity. You will need to demonstrate proof of a standard of literacy adequate to meet the demands of the course. If you have relevant qualifications and substantive experience of working in a childcare or school setting you may be able to enrol onto a higher level course subject to an informal interview with the Curriculum Manager or Programme Leader. Call into the general advice and guidance sessions listed on page 6. You will be able to discuss your requirements and enrol onto childcare and supporting teaching and learning in schools at any session. This course is fun and practical and is ideal for learners returning to education. You must possess a full Entry Level 3 ESOL (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) or adult literacy Entry Level 3 qualification. The course explores children’s growth and development. Supporting teaching and learning in schools Level 2 certificate This qualification will enable the learner to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in the school environment. It is suitable for learners working or volunteering in roles that support pupils’ learning including teaching assistants, learning support assistants and special needs assistants. You need to be working or volunteering in a school environment for a minimum 10 hours per week. You need to have six months experience of volunteering or working in a school setting. You will also need a Level 2 literacy qualification (GCSE A-C or equivalent) and a Level 1 numeracy qualification.
