Supporting Teaching and <strong>Learning</strong><br />

in Schools and Childcare<br />

Achieve the qualificati<strong>on</strong>s you need to work with children and young people in a teaching assistant or childcare capacity.<br />

You will need to dem<strong>on</strong>strate proof of a standard of literacy adequate to meet the demands of the course. If you have<br />

relevant qualificati<strong>on</strong>s and substantive experience of working in a childcare or school setting you may be able to enrol<br />

<strong>on</strong>to a higher level course subject to an informal interview with the Curriculum Manager or Programme Leader.<br />

Call into the general advice and guidance sessi<strong>on</strong>s listed <strong>on</strong> page 6. You will be able to discuss your requirements and<br />

enrol <strong>on</strong>to childcare and supporting teaching and learning in schools at any sessi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Caring for children Entry level 3 award<br />

This course is aimed at people with no previous experience and who are c<strong>on</strong>sidering working towards a career in<br />

childcare. This course is fun and practical and is ideal for learners returning to educati<strong>on</strong>. You must possess a full Entry<br />

Level 3 ESOL (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) or adult literacy Entry Level 3 qualificati<strong>on</strong>. The course explores<br />

children’s growth and development. There are no examinati<strong>on</strong>s to take; you will build up a file of work whilst attending the<br />

Support Work in Schools Level 2 award<br />

This qualificati<strong>on</strong> is suitable for learners wishing to progress <strong>on</strong>to level 2 but who are not yet volunteering or employed in a<br />

school. This course is an introducti<strong>on</strong> to the informati<strong>on</strong> and knowledge needed to work in a school envir<strong>on</strong>ment and can<br />

apply to a variety of support roles.<br />

No practical placement required. You must possess a Level 2 Literacy qualificati<strong>on</strong> (GCSE Grade A – C or equivalent)<br />
