Focus on Lifelong Learning - Oldham Council

Craig Hutton -
Photography Learner
Craig Hutton came to Oldham Lifelong Learning to
gain new photography skills in which he has had a
longstanding interest.
He enrolled on City & Guilds Photography Level 1 and
was hooked. He not only completed and achieved
Level 1, he then went on to complete Level 2. His work
is of such a high standard he was selected from many
learners who had sent in photos for the front cover of the
2011-12 <strong>Focus</strong> on Lifelong Learning.
Craig also undertook an assignment in his own time to
track the progress of the refurbishment of the Failsworth
Town Hall and Lifelong Learning Centre during last year.
His work was shown to the Leader of the Council and
other dignitaries at the official opening of the building.
Craig is now self-employed in photography. He has set
up his own business on the internet and has taken many
commissions for work, the latest being a prestigious rock
concert.
Craig says: “It’s amazing, I never thought I would ever
have my own web site (GI Photography) and could earn
a living doing something I really love. Lifelong Learning
rocks!”
Wider Family Learning
Wider Family Learning courses provide opportunities
for mums, dads, grandparents and carers to rediscover
how much fun they can have with their children. Families
can learn new skills and develop strategies and ideas for
playing and working together in a creative and focused
way.
Bite-size learning fun days and events
These events and activities are held during school holidays
and weekends at various venues e.g. libraries, Children’s
centres and Lifelong Learning centres. Come along and
have some fun as a family and try:
• Robot and rocket making
• Under 5s activities
• Pamper sessions
• Digital photography and computers
• Family safety
• Healthy eating
• Themed activities
Craig has continued his involvement with Lifelong
Learning through attending a photography community
group in one of our centres (see details of community
groups on pages 65 to 70 of this brochure).
Mina Ahmed
Mina Ahmed, former photography learner won the City
and Guilds medal for excellence and was runner up for
FE sector learner of the year Lion Award.

Family Learning provides opportunities for mums, dads,

National Careers Service
• Gain qualifications in national literacy and numeracy
tests and accreditation through City and Guilds and
Ascentis
• Progress onto further learning opportunities such
as ICT, ESOL, Skills for Life, Health, Arts and Crafts,
Leisure courses and other Family Learning courses
• Move on to training for employment and voluntary
work
