Supporting teaching and learning in schools Level 2 certificate
This qualification will enable the learner to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and
learning in the school environment. It is suitable for learners working or volunteering in roles that support pupils’ learning
including teaching assistants, learning support assistants and special needs assistants.
You need to be working or volunteering in a school environment for a minimum 10 hours per week. You need to have six
months experience of volunteering or working in a school setting. You will also need a Level 2 literacy qualification (GCSE
A-C or equivalent) and a Level 1 numeracy qualification.
Interested candidates will need to complete an application form and will be interviewed before being offered a place on
the course.

Food Safety for Health and Social Care, Early Years and Childcare
Settings Level 2 award
This course will develop the knowledge needed when working with food in health and social care and early years and
childcare settings. You do not need access to the workplace; this is a knowledge only unit. There are no examinations to
take; you will produce a file of evidence.

Supporting teaching and learning in schools Level 3 award
This qualification is suitable for learners wishing to progress to level 3 but who are not yet employed. The course will
provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge needed to work directly with children and young people in
school environments.
You need a level 2 literacy and numeracy qualification (GCSE A-C or equivalent).
It is recommended that you are volunteering in a school or have some previous experience.

This qualification will provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly
with children and young people in a school environment. You need to be currently employed as a teaching assistant
or learning support assistant in a school with 18 months experience. You will also need to have completed a level 2
qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or be able to demonstrate considerable experience of
working in a classroom setting. You need to possess level 2 literacy and level 2 numeracy qualifications. (GCSE grade C
or above). Assessments will also be carried out within your school environment.

the course.
