Concessionary status Learners entitled to a concessionary rate do not pay any fees for qualification courses that are funded by the Skills Funding Agency. If you are in receipt of a benefit, proof of this must be shown when you enrol for your course. Please bring original documents as we are unable to accept photocopies. All our courses are for adults aged 19 years and over. Circumstances that qualify for a concessionary rate on qualification courses with codes beginning with letter V. You are: • in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance • in receipt of Employment and Support Allowance (work-related activity only) • studying a Maths or English (Skills for Life) course • aged 19-23 on 31st August 2012 and studying at Entry Level, Level 1 or 2 course (not ESOL) without having already obtained a Full level 2. • aged 19-23 on 31st August 2012 and studying your first Full Level 2 (Full level 2 equates to GCSE level A- C) • aged 19-24 on 31st August 2012 and studying your first Full level 3 You will also be entitled to the concessionary rate if you are unemployed, you want to enter employment and will benefit from skills training to do so and you are in receipt of one of the following benefits. • Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit (excluding Single Person Discount) • Income Support • Working Tax Credit with a household income of less than £15,860 (Child Tax Credit is not eligible) • Pension Guarantee Credit (Saving Credit only is not eligible). • Asylum seeker in receipt of Asylum Support assistance and have permission to work To claim this concession you must sign a declaration form confirming that you want to enter employment as well as bringing proof of the income based benefit If you have difficulty paying the course fees and are on a low income you can apply to the Discretionary Learner Support Fund for financial support when you enrol. Learners entitled to a concessionary rate for nonqualification courses that are funded by the Skills Funding Agency pay a reduced fee. Circumstances that qualify for a concessionary rate on courses with codes beginning with the letter C. You are in receipt of: • Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit (excluding Single Person Discount) • Income Support • Job Seekers Allowance • Working Tax Credit with a household income of less than the designated threshold (£15,860 per annum). Child Tax Credit is not eligible • Pension Guarantee Credit (Saving Credit only is not eligible). • Employment and Support Allowance (work related only) • Asylum seeker in receipt of Asylum Support assistance. Specialist courses/workshops and small groups Specialist courses are offered at a higher hourly rate. There is a partial concession on these courses for people in receipt of the benefits shown above. We also run some cost recovery courses. These are set at a competitive rate but have no concessions. Refunds We only give a refund if your class closes or if you give advance notice before the course start date that you will not be taking up your place on a course. Other requests for refunds will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. There is more information on this in the Policy and Procedure for Fees and refund of fees. Although we will do our best to provide our courses and services as published, we may need to alter, postpone or cancel courses or services or any aspects of them without incurring liability. We make every effort to find a suitable alternative for you should this happen. For example, a course may close or merge because we have not enrolled enough learners. Hints and tips to help you now that you have chosen your course Getting organised … • Make a note of your class day, time and location. Keep the receipt you were given when you paid for your course and bring it to your first class. • Make a note of the telephone number of the centre your class is based in, just in case you need to let us know if you will not be able to attend. • Try to arrive a few minutes early at your first class. Important information is given then, such as whether you need to buy any books or equipment, or what will be provided for you. You will meet fellow learners for the first time and begin to get to know them. • Over the first three weeks your tutor will carry out an induction programme to ensure you are fully briefed about your course content, health and safety procedures and to help you to settle in. • Take a notepad and pen with you that you always use just for your class. Jot down all of your notes in it throughout your course and then everything will be kept in one place. • Don’t invest in anything else before your first class, unless you are attending an arts and crafts or cookery class and have been advised to bring your own items (such as your own cloths for cookery). • You might need to set additional time aside for working at home. Your tutor will tell you during induction of approximate time requirements, to enable you to organise your additional study time. For example, you may be given homework. You might also want to work on a project in your own time in addition to the time you spend in your class. • If you have any questions about your course do not hesitate to contact us.
