Family <strong>Learning</strong><br />

Family <strong>Learning</strong> offers a range of free courses for<br />

mums, dads, grandparents, carers and children.<br />

Courses are held at times to meet parents’/carers’<br />

needs. A free crèche is available at many venues.<br />

Some courses focus <strong>on</strong> families learning together,<br />

while others are for parents/carers <strong>on</strong>ly, with the<br />

emphasis <strong>on</strong> supporting the family.<br />

Courses take place in over 30 venues across <strong>Oldham</strong>,<br />

including local schools, Lifel<strong>on</strong>g <strong>Learning</strong> Centres,<br />

Children’s Centres and community venues.<br />

We work in partnership with your child’s school/<br />

nursery/children’s centre to offer exciting learning<br />

opportunities for the whole family.<br />

Family programmes<br />

The courses below provide opportunities for:<br />

• Mums, dads, grandparents, carers and children to<br />

• Mums, dads, grandparents, and carers to find out<br />

how to support their children’s development in the<br />

subject and new methods taught in school.<br />

EYFS (Early Years Foundati<strong>on</strong> Stage)<br />

A course to help you find out about the EYFS framework<br />

and how best to support your child through it. For parents/<br />

carers and children aged 0 – 5 years. Find out how to<br />

develop your child’s communicati<strong>on</strong> skills; how your child<br />

learns through play; help you and your child be ready for<br />

nursery/school; activities to share at home and learning<br />

opportunities for yourself.<br />

Keeping up with the children<br />

For mums, dads, grandparents and carers to find out<br />

how children are taught in schools and be able to support<br />

homework. Provides opportunities to brush up <strong>on</strong> your<br />

skills and gain a nati<strong>on</strong>al qualificati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

We work in partnership with <strong>Oldham</strong> Libraries, Bookstart,<br />

Booktrust and The <strong>Oldham</strong> Evening Chr<strong>on</strong>icle to offer a<br />

variety of exciting opportunities to support families reading<br />

together.<br />

Family <strong>Learning</strong> works in partnership with: primary, sec<strong>on</strong>dary schools and academies, voluntary organisati<strong>on</strong>s,<br />

libraries, sports organisati<strong>on</strong>s, local charities, local businesses, theatres, Distinct Partnerships, OPAG, Children’s<br />

Centres, <strong>Oldham</strong> Coliseum, Barnardos, NLDC and Museums, parks and galleries.<br />

Courses run throughout the week, at weekends and during school holidays. Enrolment sessi<strong>on</strong>s will be held in<br />

schools, children’s centres and community venues throughout the year.<br />
