Budgeting Task<br />

Distribute the double-sided Budget Activity Sheet.<br />

Once familiar with the components of a budget, students can commence the Party Time activity.<br />

This provides students with an opportunity to apply their budgeting skills whilst solving a problem.<br />

Students peer assess the Party Time budgeting activity by conducting an audit.<br />

The budget is a plan <strong>for</strong> spending and income. Discuss:<br />

What do you think it means “Fail to plan, plan to fail’?<br />

What would happen if the school/government/sporting club/parents simply spent money and<br />

didn’t have a budget plan to know if their spending was in control?<br />

Why is it important to budget? Why should my family budget?<br />

Students respond by explaining why budgeting is important and how budgeting can<br />

help their family or themselves.<br />

Early Finisher's Web Task<br />

You must select food <strong>for</strong> a family <strong>for</strong> 3 days. Select groceries via the internet by using an online grocery provider<br />

such as Coles Online www.colesmyer.com.au or Safeway/Woolworth’s www.homeshop.com.au.<br />

With $60 you must:<br />

select enough food <strong>for</strong> 3 days <strong>for</strong> a family of 3. This includes breakfast, lunch and dinner<br />

remember that one family member is 11 years old and the other two are adults.<br />
