3.3.2.3. Roof Support. Once the second layer is complete, begin preparing<br />

the roof support. To support the roof structure, four 18-foot, U-shaped sheet<br />

pilings are required. Place two pieces of the sheet pilings end-<strong>to</strong>-end on <strong>to</strong>p<br />

of each of the sidewalls of the structure as illustrated in Figure 3.10. Ensure<br />

the panels are centered on the sidewalls. Other materials such as 6- by 6-inch<br />

lumber can be used in lieu of sheet pilings for roof support if approved by an<br />

<strong>engineer</strong> with experience in structural analysis. This structure will be depended<br />

upon <strong>to</strong> shield personnel from attacks, and its structural integrity cannot<br />

be overemphasized. For this reason, any tendency <strong>to</strong> improvise materials<br />

or procedures during construction should be avoided.<br />
