i. Inside Crown of the Axle Box should be checked for wear at the time of repacking.<br />

Concave wear on the inside Crown should not be permitted under<br />

any circumstances.<br />

ii. The dust shield should be examined during re-packing of axle boxes in sick<br />

lines. If found worn, torn, or if it has lost its stiffness, it should be replaced.<br />

iii. Axle boxes with rejectable defects to be attended as given in para 605 I(b).<br />

iv. Bearing brass to be examined and repaired as given in para 605 N(g).<br />

v. Periodicity of re-packing and oiling to be followed as given in para 605 -O.<br />

vi. Procedure of re-packing of axle boxes to be done as given in para 605 P.<br />

vii. Important do’s & don’ts in re-packing of axle boxes to be followed as given in<br />

para 605 R.<br />

viii. Examination and maintenance of Axle, wheels and tyres should be done as per<br />

IRCA Part III (2000) Rule 2.8.<br />

L. REPAIR <strong>AND</strong> MAINTENANCE DURING ROH & POH<br />

The following additional work is also to be carried out during maintenance<br />

at the time of ROH and POH including the work mentioned in para J.<br />

i. The dust shield should be examined, every time the axle box is repacked<br />

during POH. If found worn, torn, or if it has lost its stiffness, it should be<br />

replaced.<br />

ii. Axle boxes should be examined and inspected on open lines for defects.<br />

Rejectable defects of axle box to be attended as given in para 605 I(b).<br />

iii. The elongated/oval cut holes on face plate should not allowed. Proper riveting<br />

of the face plate to be done with axle box.<br />

iv. Bearing brass to be examined and repaired as given in para 605 N(g).<br />

v. Repair of the journal to be done as per IRCA Part III (2000).<br />

vi. Periodicity of repacking and oiling to be followed as given in para 605-O.<br />

vii. Procedure of re-packing of axle boxes to be done as given in para 605 P.<br />

viii. Proper attention must be paid to the examination and riveting of the face plate<br />

at the time of POH in workshop. Important do’s & don’ts in re-packing of axle<br />

boxes to be followed as given in para 605 R.<br />

ix. Procedure for white metalling to be done as given in para 605 S.<br />

x. Examination and maintenance of Axle, wheels and tyres should be done as per<br />

IRCA Part III (2000).
