At the time of POH, if the holes are found to exceed 2 mm in<br />

dia above the nominal dia, it should be built up by welding and holes<br />

should be drilled to correct size. Normally no wear takes place on these<br />

holes. At the time of POH and in service, the bottom arch bar should<br />

be checked for cracks breakage and loss in off - set. If these defects are<br />

found, it should be renewed/ repaired. There are hardly any case of<br />

cracking or breakage of bottom arch bar.<br />

VII. BOGIE SPRING PLANK PACKING<br />

Four numbers are required for each trolley. It is placed between<br />

the vertical side of the spring plank and column and these are secured<br />

together by rivets. Each packing plate has two rivet holes. The rivet<br />

holes should be drilled at correct locations. Packing plates are provided<br />

only if necessary on diamond frame bogies. It gives enough space for<br />

inserting and withdrawing the floating bolsters to and from the side<br />

frame.<br />

e. AXLE BOX WITH SIDE FRAME<br />

This is identical to Cast Steel Bogie axle box and side frame<br />

covered earlier in this chapter.<br />

604 B. REPAIR <strong>AND</strong> MAINTENANCE IN SICK LINE<br />

i. The tie bar should be checked for crack/breakage. Cracked tie bars should be<br />

changed.<br />

ii. The column should be checked for cracks distortion etc. and necessary<br />

replacement/repairs should be done.<br />

iii. The rivets should also be checked for cracks/breakage and slackness and<br />

renewed.<br />

iv. The brake beam hanger bracket bushes should be checked for wear and be<br />

replaced if necessary.<br />

v. Repair of Top & bottom arch bar to be done as given in para 604 A (a) V, VI..<br />

604 C. REPAIR <strong>AND</strong> MAINTENANCE DURING ROH & POH<br />

In addition to all the work mentioned above in para 604 B, the following work<br />

is also to be carried out in ROH & POH :-<br />

a. The column should be checked for cracks, distortion etc. and<br />

replacement/repairs should be done. The four rivets should be checked for<br />

cracks/breakage and slackness and renewed.
