f) Wagons unevenly loaded should not be allowed to run in service. Worn out pins<br />

should be replaced. Spring with shifted plates beyond limit should be replaced.<br />

605 M. REPAIR <strong>AND</strong> MAINTENANCE DURING ROH & POH<br />

The following additional work also to be carried out during maintenance at<br />

the time of ROH and POH including the above work mentioned at para 605 L.<br />

i. All spring to be given a scrag test and their camber should be checked..<br />

ii. At least 5% of springs must be subjected to load deflection test.<br />

iii. Important Do’s & Don’ts for spring as given in para 605 F to be followed.<br />

iv. It should be ensured that packing plate sits properly on the axle box crown and<br />

the spring buckle rests properly over it and there should be no chance for them<br />

to come out of the crown. Buffer height to be adjusted as given in para 605 G.<br />

v. The inner portions where axle guards wear, horn cheeks have been provided<br />

on the axle guard. Horn cheek should be replaced after reaching condemning<br />

limit.<br />

vi. To ensure that the longitudinal and lateral clearances on horn cheeks are<br />

within limits ‘not go gauge’ and ‘wear limit gauge’ for condemning the horn<br />

cheeks should be used<br />

vii. Important Do’s & Don’ts for Roller bearing as given in para 605 K to be<br />

followed.<br />

605 N. AXLE BOX ASSEMBLY WITH PLAIN BEARING<br />

Axle box keeps the axle in position and provides lubrication to the journal. It<br />

encloses bearing and conditions lubrication. The bearing may be a plain brass or<br />

SGCI bearing or a roller bearing using oil soaked waste for the former and grease for<br />

the latter. There are many types of axle boxes in use on <strong>Railway</strong>s. Plain brass bearing<br />

axle boxes in use on <strong>Railway</strong>s of IRS & IRCA type only are being described in this<br />

chapter.<br />

5. IRS axle box (MG) for 4 wheeler wagons journal size 230 x 115 mm to Drg.<br />

No. W/AB-1401<br />

6. IRS axle box (MG) for 8 wheeler wagons journal size 230 x 115 mm to Drg.<br />
