- 12 P i l e u s 5-9 cm, convex with flattened or slightly depressed centre, silky, at first greyish white ("Tilleul Buff"), soon alittIe darker with fleshy tinge ("Avellaneous"). Smooth, at first with small, scattered, pale, adpressed velum seaIes near the margin, then also with broad adpressed scales formed by the rupture of the stiff pellicle (as shown in B r e s a d o l a). Margin less strongly involute but with thick white dentate edge. G i Il s free, crowded, fairly thick, narrow, somewhat dry, paIe rose ("Flesh Pink"), finally blackish brown with sterile, Iight -coloured, denticulate edge. S t e ro 4-5 cm X 10-20 mm , cylindrical or slightly bulbous at base, pithy, fin ally fistulose, white, later reddish grey below ring like the cap, floccose just under the ring. R i n g peronate, white, thick, narrow, spreading, flocco se on the underside, and with a squamulous zone from the universal veil. F l e s h firm, white, when broken strongly flesh-coloured ("Vinaceous-Fawn"), the pith of the stem, as in other species with pithy stems, persistently white. Cystidia on gill edge nu merous, tufted, broadly clavate, hyaline or brown, 26-54 X 8-18 p , mostly 10-12 p broad. . Gregarious in light spruce plantations, rather infrequent. June October. Falster: Korselitzeskovene by Garrethusene; Lindeskoven; at the south end of Virket Sø. - Fyn: Bøllevænge near Nyborg. Lolland: Krageskov near Priorskov; Lindet Skov; Ryde Skov. Møen: Klinteskoven near Slumrehulen (G. E b b e s e n). - Sjælland: Garden in Køge (M. P . Christiansen, K. Elleby). The species is both macroscopically and microscopically quite distinct from P. bispora and is also characterized by its growth on spruce needles. Tf.the ring is taken into consideration, it eannot be mistaken for P. squamulifera which also grows under spruce. The figure cited from B r e s a d o l a does not show the characteristic flocci on the cap, and the flesh turns a more vivid red in the fresh fruit bodies of P . subjloccosa. However, B r e s a d o l a figures 4 spored basidia, and the dimensions of his cystidia (45-60 X 10 12 p) agree better with P. subjloccosa than with P. bispora; I I I I \ I I

Margin more or less elosely involute for a longer or shorter period, with thiekened and outwardly striate edge. G i Il s free, very erowded, narrow, light flesh eolour ("PaIe Cinnamon Pink"), at length blaekish brown with sterile, pale edge, S t e m 4-6 cm X 20-35 mm, eylindrical or slightly swollen towards the base whieh is often somewhat pointed, rooting, solid, with the same eolour as the eap, smooth. R i n g double: (l) a broader, and thieker upper ring whieh is peronate, rigid and spreading, often striate on the upper side, naked and unstriped on the underside, and (2) a quite narrow and thin, sheating, erect, lower ring. Flesh firm and dense both in the cap and the stem, white, very slightly wine red ("PaIe Vinaceous Fawn") when broken.
