D e s c r i p t i o n. P i l e u s 5-7 cm, semiglobate at first, then<br />

convex with flattened depressed centre, light flesh colour vinaceous<br />

("PaIe Purplish Vinaceous") but soon dirty purplish brown ("Dark<br />

Vinaceous-Brown"), when quite young everywhere paIe floccoso­<br />

squamulose, then shining, set with small, adpressed, darker squamu­<br />

les and fibrils, at the margin only dark fibrilloso-striate. G i Il s<br />

free, crowded, thin, broad, a bright "campestris red" ("Vinaceous­<br />

Pink") in the expanding phase, then blackish brown, with fertile<br />

edge. S t e m 3--4 cm X 10-15 mm, often attenuated downwards,<br />

pithy, at length slightly hollow, white, as a rule with flesh-coloured<br />

top, smooth above the ring, under it floccoso-squamulose at first,<br />

then smooth. R i n g very shortly sheathed above, white, thin, fra­<br />

gile, narrow, simple. F l e s h thin, white, when broken slightly<br />

rubescent ("PaIe Grayish Vinaceous"). S m e Il weak, acidulous.<br />

Schaffer reaction negative. Spore p o w d e r dark brown<br />

("Mummy Brown"; L. g 8; S. 701).<br />

Gregarious in meadows in the autumn. Not common but occur­<br />

ring locally in quantity.<br />

Bornholm: In and around Almindingen (e. g. at Christianshøj). ­<br />

Falster: Bøtø Nor. - Glænø island in Smålandshavet. - Jylland:<br />

Common pasture north of Randers (A. H a u e r b a c h). - Lolland:<br />

Frejlev Enghave.<br />

Psalliota bispora has cystidia at edge and the ring is peronate.<br />

The above-described specieswas already known to the author<br />

from Denmark (Bøtø Nor) when in 1937 Jul. Schaffer sent<br />

him drawings and description of Psalliota campestris v. cupreo­<br />

brunnea Schåff. et Steer, found in Slesvig-Holsten (S t e e r). It is,<br />

however, a good species which, in . a culinary respect too, differs<br />

considerably from white field mushrooms, (no. 7), since it becomes<br />

dark when cooked.<br />
