basi tuberculata, apice interdum roseo-tincto, sub annulo albo-floc­<br />

culosus. Annulus superus, albus, infra levis vel ad marginem squa­<br />

mulis debilibus, fuscis ornatus, supra striatus, tenuis, integer, per­<br />

sistens. Caro tenuis, alba, fracta praecipue in stipite dilute rosea,<br />

odore ingrato ut in Lepiota cristata.<br />

Sporae acervatim umbrinae, ovatae, 1-2-guttulatae, 5-6 X<br />

3-3.5 p. Basidia 4-sterigmatica, clavata, 20-28 X 6-8 p. Sterig­<br />

mata 2 p longa. Cystidia aciei lamellarum ovata, hyalina, 15-28 X<br />

12-16 p.<br />

Gregaria in silvis abiegnis (Picea) Daniae.<br />

Species distineta inter P. silvaticam et P. Langei mediam. Dif­<br />

fert praecipue a P. silvatica lamellis distincte roseis et carne leviter<br />

rubescenti, a P. Langei stipite tuberculato, carne leviter rubescenti,<br />

sporis minoribus, a P. impudica Rea carne rubescenti, odore ingrato,<br />

sporis maioribus.<br />

D e s c r i p t i o n. P i l e u s 5-10 cm, convex with flattened cen­<br />

tre, sometimes subumbonate, shining, chocolate brown ("Fuscous")<br />

at first, with lighter margin and blackish brown centre, the pellicle<br />

very soon, however, breaking up into a broad blackish brown ("Fu­<br />

scous") skull-cap surrounded by concentric, sparse, brown, trans­<br />

versal, adpressed squamules 011 a pale ("Cartridge Buff") ground<br />

fading in colour and reduced in size towards the margin. G i Il s<br />

free, very crowded, narrow, light flesh colour ("PaIe Congo Pink"),<br />

at length dark brown, with sterile, white, but not very floccose<br />

edge. S t e m 8-13 cm X 10-15 mm, with round bulbous base, hollow,<br />

quite white or with a roseate tinge above, fibrillose-f'Ioccose<br />

in the lower half. R i n g sheathed above, quite white or with a faint<br />

zone of thin, brown squamules on the underside just inside the<br />

periphery; otherwise the ring is as in P. silvatica spreading, striate<br />

above and entire. F l e s h thin, white, and only very faintly turning<br />

pink ("Shell Pink"), mostly at the apex of the stem. S m e Il strong<br />

and disagreeable as in Lepiota crisiata. S c h li f f e r r e a c t i o n<br />

negative. S p o r e p o w d e r dirty brown ("Saccardos Umber"; L.<br />

in thin border, egg-or balloon-shaped, hyaline, 15-28 X 12-16 p.
