Mcdium-sized, short-stemmed species. Pileus whitish. Gills narrow,<br />

pale flesh colour. Sterile gill edge pallid. Ring sheathed above.<br />

Flesh turning slightly red. Cystidia an gill edge narrow, hypha-like.<br />

Spores roundish. Schå ffer reaction most frequently negative. On<br />

meadows in grass.<br />

At present only one species can be referred to the group.<br />

D i a g n o s i s. Pileus 5-8 cm, ex hemisphaerico convexo-expansus,<br />

centro leviter applanat o, sericeo-nitens, levigatus, albidus, saepe<br />

dilute griseo-incarnato tinctus, tactu flavo-maculatus, squamis latis,<br />

debilibus, tenuibus, innatis, fulvidis vel griseo-lilacinis obtectus,<br />

interdum rimoso-squamosus, margine primitus involuto. Lamellae<br />

liberae, confertae, angustae, e dilute inearnatis obscure fuscae, acie<br />

sterili, albo-fimbriata. Stipes curtus, crassus, 3-5 cm X 20-30 mm,<br />

saepe rapiformis, farcto-fistulosus, pileo concolor, sericeo-nitens,<br />

levis. Annulus superus, albus, tenuis, integer, amplus, simplex, supra<br />

striatulus, infra levis. Caro crassa, compacta, albida, fracta prae­<br />

cipue in stipite dilute incarnata, odore debili, grata, interdum sub­<br />

amygdalino.<br />

Sporae acervatim fuscae, subglobosae, guttulatae, 5-7 X 4-5.5p .<br />

Basidia 4-sterigmatica, clavata, 24-42 X 7-9 p . Cystidia aciei<br />

lamellarum numerosa, anguste clavata vel cylindrica, 18-32(-60)<br />

X 3-7(-9) p. Gregaria, in pratis litoralibus Daniae.<br />

A P. eduii, cui affinis forma et colore pilei, colore lamellarum,<br />

cystidiis, sporis etc., facile dignoscitur, praecipue ob annulum<br />

superum.<br />

D e s c r i p t i o n. P i l e u s 5-8 cm, at first hemispherical, then<br />

expanded with flattened centre, aften very highly convex, with<br />

silky sheen, whitish with greyish-reddish tinge ("Cartridge Buff"<br />

or "Chamois") turning yellow in spots when touched, with brownish<br />

("Isabella Coloured" or "Light Drab"), adpressed, broad but often<br />

obliterated scales, in dry weather with cracked pellicle and some­<br />

times with deep fissures in the flesh. Margin of cap thin, without<br />

the striate and fleshy involute edge characterising the otherwise<br />

very similar P . edulis. G i Ils free, crowded, narrow, light flesh
