4-5 /-l. Basidia 4-sterigm atica, curte clavata, 22-28 X 7-8 /-l .<br />

Gregaria in fruticeto, Christians ø (Mare balticum). Autumno<br />

P. cupreo-brunneae similis, sed colore pilei obscuriore et forma<br />

sporarum facile dignoscenda.<br />

D e s c r i p t i o n. P i l e u s 5-6 cm, convex with slightly flat­<br />

tened centre, violet grey ("Cinnamon Drab") lightest on the dis c<br />

and there with few, small, dark grey, adpressed scales, smooth and<br />

very silky half-way inward from the margin, and radially striate<br />

with innate fibrils. G i Il s free, crowded, thin, broad, bright flesh<br />

pink, at length brownish black. The edge fertile. S t e m 4-5 cm X<br />

12-15 mm, somewhat thinner towards the base, pithy, at length<br />

narrowly hollow, whitish at first, then turning grey, at length<br />

tawny at base ("Deep Olive Buff'") , smooth everywhere. R i n g<br />

very shortly sheathed above, white, soon turning grey, thin, narrow,<br />

fugacious, simple. F l e s h thin at margin of cap, whitish with a<br />

faint reddish tinge ("Light Vinaceous-Fawn"), especiaIly at the top
