Bondi is a traditional snack made with different local products such as tender coconut,<br />

screw p<strong>in</strong>e (kashikeyo), taro and bread fruit as the ma<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>gredient and wrapped like a<br />

roll <strong>in</strong> dried banana leaves. <strong>The</strong>re are several varieties made by different islands. For<br />

example, the smaller variety, kudhi bondi <strong>in</strong> Figure 6.8 is a speciality <strong>of</strong> Kalhaidhu<br />

Island while the longer varieties, Huvadhu bondi <strong>in</strong> Figure 6.9 are specific to Th<strong>in</strong>adhu<br />

Island (Shakeela, 2000). This is a snack item - sliced bondi is also a local dessert. <strong>The</strong><br />

development <strong>of</strong> these products heightens the sense <strong>of</strong> variation with<strong>in</strong> the <strong>Maldives</strong>.<br />
