<strong>The</strong> representativeness <strong>of</strong> the sample and the respondents’ experience <strong>in</strong> the tourism<br />
<strong>in</strong>dustry, comb<strong>in</strong>ed with the fact that all respondents are senior personnel <strong>of</strong> the resorts<br />
contribute to the strength <strong>of</strong> the survey data.<br />
<strong>The</strong> experts that responded to the expert op<strong>in</strong>ion survey <strong>in</strong>cluded two policy makers,<br />
two bus<strong>in</strong>essmen and two academics (see Table 3.3). All <strong>of</strong> the experts play prom<strong>in</strong>ent<br />
roles <strong>in</strong> the <strong>Maldives</strong>’ tourism <strong>in</strong>dustry and four <strong>of</strong> them have been <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>Maldives</strong>’ tourism for more than 20 years.<br />

<strong>The</strong> policy makers are government <strong>of</strong>ficials who played significant roles at decision<br />
mak<strong>in</strong>g levels. <strong>The</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>essmen are from two <strong>of</strong> the largest private companies <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Maldives</strong> that are closely related to the tourism <strong>in</strong>dustry. One <strong>of</strong> the bus<strong>in</strong>essmen is the<br />
chief executive <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> the company while the other is a director. <strong>The</strong> careers <strong>of</strong> the<br />
two academics that participated <strong>in</strong> the survey are <strong>in</strong> tourism and cul<strong>in</strong>ary areas. Both<br />
