Church at two o'clock P. M. on Monday, February<br />

25. Private services were previously conducted<br />

at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Douglass</strong> home by <strong>the</strong> Rev. Hugh T.<br />

Stevenson, pastor of <strong>the</strong> Anacostia Baptist<br />

Church. At ten o'clock A. M. <strong>the</strong> remains were<br />

removed to <strong>the</strong> Metropolitan Church, to be viewed<br />

by <strong>the</strong> public. The body was met at <strong>the</strong> door of<br />

<strong>the</strong> church by <strong>the</strong> trustees of <strong>the</strong> church, J. W<br />

Cromwell, A. P Goines, John A. Simms, William<br />

Beckett, Jeremiah Johnson, James Ricks, and<br />

William Turley; a guard of honor furnished<br />

by <strong>the</strong> General Russell A. Alger Camp, No.<br />

25, Sons of Veterans, Division of Maryland,<br />

in <strong>the</strong> fatigue uniform of <strong>the</strong> United States cavalry,<br />

<strong>the</strong> detail in charge of Captain Judd<br />

Malvin, Past Captain John P Turner, Lieutenant<br />

George A. Scott, Chaplain David M. Turner,<br />

Lieutenant Colonel Hamilton S, Smith, Sergeant<br />

Willis Madden, and Sergeant G. H. Woodson of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Tenth United States cavalry. Members of<br />

<strong>the</strong> guard of honor were detailed to stand at <strong>the</strong><br />

head and foot of <strong>the</strong> casket as it rested on <strong>the</strong><br />

dais in <strong>the</strong> church. The beautiful and numerous<br />

floral tributes which had been sent by friends,<br />

societies, schools, and <strong>the</strong> Haytien government<br />

were massed in front of <strong>the</strong> pulpit.<br />

The day was an unusually bright and pleasant<br />

one for <strong>the</strong> season of <strong>the</strong> year. Not a cloud<br />

appeared in <strong>the</strong> sky. The sun shone out in all his
