Harrison, to take part in <strong>the</strong> dedication of <strong>the</strong><br />

soldiers' monument, he being one of <strong>the</strong> honored<br />

guests at <strong>the</strong> Cottage banquet at Ontario Beach,<br />

we may well exclaim, 'The world does move.'<br />

" The struggles and trials, and <strong>the</strong>y were legion,<br />

which <strong>Frederick</strong> <strong>Douglass</strong> endured for seventyeight<br />

years, are to-day crystallized into a grand<br />

prophecy, of which this hour is <strong>the</strong> beginning of<br />

<strong>the</strong> fulfillment.<br />

" The appreciation and love we, <strong>the</strong> women of<br />

Rochester, bear toward our friend and coworker<br />

cannot be better expressed than by reading <strong>the</strong><br />

resolutions passed at <strong>the</strong> meeting of <strong>the</strong> National<br />

Council of Women in Washington."<br />

Miss Anthony <strong>the</strong>n read <strong>the</strong> memorial adopted<br />

by <strong>the</strong> Women's National Conference at Washington<br />

on <strong>the</strong> death of Mr. <strong>Douglass</strong>.<br />

DR. GANNETT DELIVERS THE FUNERAL ORATION.<br />

The Rev. W C. Gannett, pastor of <strong>the</strong><br />

Unitarian Church, was <strong>the</strong> principal speaker of<br />

<strong>the</strong> occasion. In part this is what <strong>the</strong> eloquent<br />

clergyman said: —<br />

" This is an occasion of grief, but perhaps more<br />

of pride. This is an impressive moment in <strong>the</strong><br />

history of our city. There was a man who, when<br />

he became a fellow citizen here, lived in one of<br />

<strong>the</strong> humblest homes of <strong>the</strong> city; a man whose<br />

color exposed him to insult and rebuke, and a
