Treasures from Budapest
Renaissance art, including works by
Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael, and later
works by the likes of Schiele (right), will
be showcased in a major exhibition of
exquisite pieces on loan from the
Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest and the
Hungarian National Gallery. £12, from

Nationale Hongroise.

Gergiev’s World
The annual Gergiev Festival returns
under the leadership of acclaimed
conductor Valery Gergiev. This year the
theme Resurrection, a Story of Rotterdam
explores the city’s regeneration after
World War II. Performances include a
new dance piece by Claire Croizé, opera
The Enchanted Wanderer (below) and a
recital by pianist Bertrand Chamayou.

Urban Expressions
The newly refurbished Place Flagey
acts as the stage for one of the coolest
events in town, with the city’s youth
gathering together to take part in an
incredibly diverse array of urban art
performances, including beat-boxing,
rapping, street dancing, slam poetry
and graffi ti.

LONDON Birdsong
The theatrical adaptation of
Sebastian Faulks’ award-winning novel
Birdsong stars Ben Barnes as the young
British soldier fi ghting in the trenches
of the Somme, drawing strength to go
on from his love for Isabelle, the older
Frenchwoman with whom he had
a passionate affair before the war.
