Obsolete Pesticides: In the Central African Republic there are altogether 238 tonnes of<br />

obsolete pesticides stored in 3 different locations. The following<br />

substances were identified: DDT, Methyl-parathion.<br />

Companies identified are: Laprovet (F), Rhone Poulenc, Shell,<br />

totally bans waste shipments to its territory. The government of<br />

Comoros believes that “the only way to guarantee the protection<br />

of the environment is to prohibit the export of hazardous wastes<br />

In Spring 1995, FMW made an offer to the authorities of the<br />

Islamic Republic of the Comoros (half a million inhabitants) to<br />

build one or several incinerators for “industrial waste” with the<br />

code numbers “11/12/13/14/17/18/19 53 59/97” for imported<br />

toxic wastes from German and Austrian industries (same<br />

numbers as in the Sri Lankan case).<br />
