In the area around the Kitakyushu Science <strong>and</strong> Research Park there are four forests which are maintained as is<br />

shown in table 2 <strong>and</strong> figure 5 <strong>and</strong> 6 (figure 5 <strong>and</strong> figure 6).<br />

Forest 1; the Yatsurugi Shrine, a small shrine surrounded by a small forest, in this forest nearly all the bamboo<br />

has been cut away because in a shrine forest there was originally no bamboo.<br />

Forest 2; the Hibikino South Park, a 4 ha large park, in the middle is a pond <strong>and</strong> around the pond is a forest <strong>and</strong><br />

bamboo forests.<br />
