Tbe arrangement of these two filters varies<br />
'lccording to application. Cn some applications<br />
both filters are fitted, on others either one or the<br />
other is fitted.<br />
(3) Paper element type filter.<br />
Water Trap.<br />
This filter varies according to application.<br />
The gauze strainer is contained in an easily<br />
removable bowl and should be cleaned in accordance<br />
with periodical attentions. Section F.<br />
Pre-filter.<br />
This unit's main purpose is to protect the fuel<br />
lift pump. It bas a comparatively coarse element.<br />
(See Fig. G .2).<br />
When re-assembling, take care that a good joint<br />
is made between the top of the bowl and the filter<br />
body, as any leakage of air here, that is, on the<br />
suction side of the fuel pump, rnay cause air looks<br />
in the fuel system.<br />
Paper Element Filter.<br />
It is not possible to clean the paper element in<br />
this filter.<br />
It should be renewed every 1,000 hours. Every<br />
250 hours unscrew the drain plug at the bottom<br />
of the filter bowl and allow fuel to fiow through<br />
until clean fuel oil appears. Replace drain plug.<br />
To remove the element, unscrew the larger nut<br />
in the rentTe of the cover and drop the filter bowl<br />
clear (See Figs. G3 and G4).<br />
Remove the dirty element and throw away.<br />
(Fig. G5).<br />
Before putting new element in position, clean<br />
the filter bowl and inspect the relief valve.<br />
Ensure that the rubber joints are in good con.<br />
dition, if not, replace by new.<br />
LUBRICAnNG On.. FILTERS<br />
The importance of using clean lubricating oil<br />
in the fust place, and providing means to ensure<br />

To remove element for cleaning, unscrew<br />
knurled nut at the bottom of the bowl. Swing<br />
the stirrup clear and remove filter bowl.<br />
Remove element and wash in paraffin or clean<br />
fuel oil. Clean out and wash filter bowl in clean<br />
paraffin or fuel oil. Fig. G7
