base ; two slightly diverging large spots across <strong>the</strong> middle, and two<br />
<strong>on</strong> disk (<strong>the</strong> lower <strong>on</strong>e bifid and touching <strong>the</strong> centre <strong>of</strong> outer margin),<br />
apex white-tipped ; sec<strong>on</strong>daries hyaline, <strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong> margins irregularly<br />
black-brown : expanse <strong>of</strong> wings 28 millims.<br />

Most nearly allied to S. aperriens.<br />
It appears to me that <strong>the</strong> Syntomins would be most c<strong>on</strong>veni-<br />
ently restricted (by <strong>the</strong> character <strong>of</strong> simple filiform antennae) to<br />
<strong>the</strong> genera Syntomis (including Cmizochromia <strong>of</strong> Hiibner), Burla-<br />
cena, Byblisisia, Helisa, and Naclia (or Dysauxes) ; <strong>the</strong> African re-<br />
presentatives <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> last-menti<strong>on</strong>ed genus have pectinated antenna:<br />
and <strong>the</strong> hind-wing neurati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> Eutomis ; N. puella and gnatuln<br />
may <strong>the</strong>refore be referred to <strong>the</strong> next subftamily under <strong>the</strong> generic<br />
name <strong>of</strong> Pseud<strong>on</strong>aclia. The following genus may be added :-<br />

Allied to S'iztomis, bub antenns <strong>with</strong> fewer articulati<strong>on</strong>s, <strong>the</strong> latter<br />
more pr<strong>on</strong>ounced, and bearing minute hairs, but not serrated or<br />
pectinated ; wings much broader, veiiati<strong>on</strong> almost as in ZIy-<br />
drusa. Type C: synt<strong>on</strong>zoicles, n. sp.<br />
1. CALLITOMIS SYNTOMOIDES, n. sp.<br />
Body blue-black ; abdomen <strong>with</strong> a spot at <strong>the</strong> base, and <strong>the</strong> fifth segment<br />
orange j pectus <strong>with</strong> two lateral orange spots ; primaries dull<br />
dark green ; an interno-median snbbasal dot, a large siibqnatlrate<br />
spot near <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> discoidal cell, a transverse litura below it, and a<br />
small bifid spot crossing <strong>the</strong> base <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> third median branch ochreous<br />
; sec<strong>on</strong>daries dull brown, discocellular regi<strong>on</strong> slightly greenish :<br />
wings below, brown ; primaries spotted as above ; sec<strong>on</strong>daries <strong>with</strong><br />
two diffused ochreous spots near <strong>the</strong> base, <strong>on</strong>e interno-median, <strong>the</strong><br />
o<strong>the</strong>r abdominal : expanse <strong>of</strong> wings 34 millims.<br />

Body ochreous, antenna: and legs greenish black : wings dull semitransparent<br />
brown ; primaries <strong>with</strong> ochreous spots almost as in <strong>the</strong> preceding<br />
species ; sec<strong>on</strong>daries <strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong> Imse and <strong>the</strong> interno-median area<br />
from <strong>the</strong> origin <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first median branch to ihe base pale ochreous ;<br />
an ochreous spot <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> first median interspace : below as above :<br />
expanse <strong>of</strong> wings 30 millims.<br />
