This species has no c<strong>on</strong>nexi<strong>on</strong> whatever <strong>with</strong> Sphinx eagrzcs <strong>of</strong><br />

Cramer, <strong>with</strong> which Walker has made it syn<strong>on</strong>ymous : <strong>the</strong> Linnaean<br />

deacripti<strong>on</strong> mill <strong>on</strong>ly agree <strong>with</strong> <strong>on</strong>e insect ; aud that is <strong>the</strong> C.<br />

omphale <strong>of</strong> Hiibner.<br />

12. C. COCCINEUM, n. sp.<br />

Head black, fr<strong>on</strong>s metallic green ; antennz black ; collar, pterygodes,<br />

and thorax srrrlet, mnrgin <strong>of</strong> metnthorax and glandular drums black<br />

<strong>with</strong> a broad metallic blue-green external border ; abdomen rose-red j<br />

wings hyaline-white, veins black, outer and inner margins ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />

broadly dark brown ; primaries <strong>with</strong> apex broadly dark brown ; a Rub-<br />

costal line, <strong>the</strong> base and basi-internal area scarlet ; sec<strong>on</strong>daries <strong>with</strong><br />

base and basi-costal area rose-red ; pectus black-brown ; coxse and<br />

trochanters metnllic blue-green, legs o<strong>the</strong>rwise brown ; venter white ;<br />

wings below nearly as above; primaries <strong>with</strong> reddish ochraceous instead<br />

<strong>of</strong> scarlet, sec<strong>on</strong>daries <strong>with</strong> scarlet instead <strong>of</strong> rose-red ; expanse <strong>of</strong><br />

wings 47 millims.<br />

More nearly allied to C. auge than to any o<strong>the</strong>r species, but<br />

very distinct.<br />

14. C. PYRRHOSTETHUB, n. sp.<br />

Head black, fr<strong>on</strong>s metallic blue-green ; antennae black; collar, ptery-<br />

godes, and thorax red ; mesothorax <strong>with</strong> a large posterior, central,<br />

rounded, blae spot, metathorax <strong>with</strong> a smaller central el<strong>on</strong>gnted spot ;<br />

abdomen black spotted <strong>with</strong> blue-green at <strong>the</strong> sides : wings nearly as<br />

in C. coccineum, but <strong>with</strong> n decided blackish oblique spot <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> dis-<br />

cocellulars <strong>of</strong> primaries, a..d <strong>the</strong> red colorati<strong>on</strong> paler: body below<br />

dark brown ; cox= and trochanters spotted <strong>with</strong> blue-green, remainder<br />

<strong>of</strong> legs clay-coloured : expanse <strong>of</strong> wings 42 millims.<br />

Closely allied to <strong>the</strong> preceding species, but <strong>with</strong>out <strong>the</strong> blackish spot <strong>on</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> discocellulars <strong>of</strong> primaries, and altoge<strong>the</strong>r brighter in colouring,<br />

also <strong>with</strong>out <strong>the</strong> blue spot <strong>on</strong> mesothorax.<br />
