Subfamily THYRETINX.<br />

Autenns always more or less str<strong>on</strong>gly pectinated, more str<strong>on</strong>gly<br />

iri <strong>the</strong> males than in <strong>the</strong> females, neurati<strong>on</strong> and colorati<strong>on</strong> fre-<br />

quently partaking <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> character <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> preceding subfamily ;<br />

aual scgmcnt <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> males terminally slightly pilose.<br />

Genus HYDI~USA, Walker.<br />

This genus is most nenrly allied to Syntomio, <strong>the</strong> antenns <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> males in thc typical group being armed <strong>with</strong> ra<strong>the</strong>r short<br />

pectinati<strong>on</strong>s, aud <strong>the</strong> females <strong>with</strong> mere serrati<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

1. IIYDRUSA CINGULATA, n. sp.<br />

Nearly allied to H. annulnta, but smaller, <strong>the</strong> head narrower, <strong>of</strong> a<br />

brighter orange colour, <strong>the</strong> crvst more narrowly banded <strong>with</strong> orange ;<br />

primaries <strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong> spot at end <strong>of</strong> eel1 smaller, narrower than l<strong>on</strong>g,<br />

<strong>the</strong> subapical spot bifid, much more el<strong>on</strong>gated, <strong>the</strong> discal bifid rpot<br />

subtriangular, no pale tawny dot c<strong>on</strong>necting <strong>the</strong> discal and subapica<br />

spots ; sec<strong>on</strong>daries <strong>with</strong> tlie base more narrowly orange (<strong>the</strong> orange<br />

area <strong>on</strong>ly occupying <strong>the</strong> brsal third <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> wing), discal oval spot<br />

smaller, less distinctly divided : body below brighter in colour, abdomen<br />

banded <strong>with</strong> orange down to <strong>the</strong> anus ; wings below nearly as<br />

above : espnse <strong>of</strong> wings 37 millims.<br />

Moret<strong>on</strong> Hay (Gihb<strong>on</strong>s). Type, B.M.<br />

The type <strong>of</strong> H. annulafa is in <strong>the</strong> Baoksian cabinet, and agrees<br />

<strong>with</strong> an oxampla which we have from Sidney.<br />

We have two examples, registered “ N. E. coast <strong>of</strong> Australia,”<br />

which scem to be referable to If. cingulafa.<br />

1. 11. IIUMERALIS, n. sp.<br />

Allied to <strong>the</strong> preceding species, but smaller; head orange, <strong>with</strong> a furrate<br />

spot <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> crest ; thorax blackish, tegulae orange ; abdomen orange,<br />

<strong>the</strong> segments edged <strong>with</strong> blark ; primaries as in <strong>the</strong> preceding spe-<br />

cies; sec<strong>on</strong>daries <strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong> basal half pale orange, apical half blark-<br />

brown, a large bitid subapical pale orange spot scarcely separated from<br />

<strong>the</strong> basal area : wings below as above ; expanse 2!) millims.<br />

Nearly nlliecl to 11. annalata, same size and general appearance ; head<br />

entirely black above, fr<strong>on</strong>s oranxe ; thorax black, abdomen blnck nar-<br />
