Trade and Investment Missions<br />

An inbound and outbound trade and investment mission was facilitated/coordinated,<br />

organized and attended by AMAS in tandem with agribusiness SMEs. Promotion collateral<br />

materials have been prepared for investment promotion.<br />

Sample results include: (a) A P=10-million investment in an ongoing aquaculture in Abra<br />

province that is expected to generate annual revenue <strong>of</strong> some P=10 million; and (b) a cassava<br />

starch processing plant constructed by Rubicon Holding Corporation in Palawan Puerto<br />

Princesa City. The project includes a 500-ha nursery for cassava production.<br />

‘<strong>Agribusiness</strong> Investment Opportunities’ Seminar Series<br />

A series <strong>of</strong> commodity seminars is being conducted in all 15 regions <strong>of</strong> the country to<br />

identify potential investment areas in agribusiness in the rural communities, and link them to<br />

possible local and foreign investors. In the same manner, the seminars provide assistance in<br />

product development and packaging to existing and potential agribusiness entrepreneurs.<br />

Market Interventions under the National Marketing Umbrella<br />

AMAS is spearheading the establishment <strong>of</strong> a National Marketing Umbrella (NMU)<br />

depicted in Figure 1. It has initiated the creation <strong>of</strong> commodity councils for 13 priority<br />

commodities where the Philippines has comparative advantage: mangoes, abaca, c<strong>of</strong>fee,<br />

coconuts, bananas, seaweed/carrageenan, tilapia, broilers, table eggs, onions, cut flowers and<br />

palm oil.<br />

Market Information Dissemination<br />

The AMAS web-page features commodity pr<strong>of</strong>iles, industry situationers, regional<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>iles, financial packages, export procedures and technology guides that are very useful to<br />

agribusiness enterprises (address: ). AMAS also<br />

conducts e-commerce awareness seminars.<br />

Value-adding/Processing Support for Farmers/Fisherfolk<br />

Provision <strong>of</strong> equipment/facilities to enable farmers/fisherfolk to participate in valueadding<br />

activities or the semi-processing <strong>of</strong> products.<br />

Market Infrastructure Support Services<br />

To ensure efficient and effective distribution <strong>of</strong> goods from the farm to the consumer,<br />

the establishment <strong>of</strong> terminal markets is under study at selected sites around the country.<br />

<strong>Agribusiness</strong> Park<br />

Strategic Agriculture and Fishery Zones are being promoted nationwide to encourage<br />

private investment in agricultural production, agribusiness processing, research and<br />

development, aquaculture production and other related agribusiness ventures.<br />

Investment Matching/Market Links<br />

To implement long-term investment matching/market links, area clustering is necessary<br />

for sustained operations <strong>of</strong> possible modalities such as joint ventures, contract growing,<br />

cooperative arrangements, etc.<br />
