ISO-TP: OSI Transport Layer Protocols
- The OSI suite defines the following 5 transport layers protocols:
TP0 (Transport Protocol Class 0) Performs segmentation and reassembly functions.
TP1 (Transport Protocol Class 1) Performs segmentation, reassembly, and error recovery.
It segments and sequences PDUs and retransmits them or
reinitiates the connection if an excessive number of PDUs
are unacknowledged.
TP2 (Transport Protocol Class 2) Performs segmentation, reassembly, and multiplexing.
TP3 (Transport Protocol Class 3) Performs segmentation, reassembly, error recovery, and
multiplexing. It segments and sequences PDUs and
retransmits them or reinitiates the connection if an
excessive number of PDUs are unacknowledged.
TP4 (Transport Protocol Class 4) Same with TP3. It is the most commonly used among OSI
transport protocols. Similar to TCP in the TCP/IP suite.
- The protocols increase in complexity from Class 0 to 4.
