3.2.2 HOST DATA SETS<br />

Human Demographics Data<br />

Humans provide a breeding area f<strong>or</strong> mosquitoes in the f<strong>or</strong>m <strong>of</strong> water vessels in and<br />

around the home, as well as a blood meal that could lead to the transmission <strong>of</strong> RVF virus.<br />

Human residential density at the county level was acquired from the 2000 National Census<br />

Bureau data (U.S. Bureau <strong>of</strong> the Census 2000). A map indicating areas <strong>of</strong> high human<br />

density in Virginia, Maryland, and the District <strong>of</strong> Columbia is shown in Figure 3.2.<br />
