Glossary
Data item
Part of a LINC Specification defined by using the DATA; command in LINC Painter. Used
to enter, store and display data.
data item
The collective term for the variables used to enter, manipulate, store, and display data
(Data items, Ordinates, Setup Data items, and so on).
database
See LINC Database.
Database Management Utility (DMU)
(1) A LINC Utility that enables you to maintain your LINC Database. (2) Use to perform
such tasks as changing the amount of disk space allocated to database structures, initiate a
full or partial database reorganizations (for MCP based LINC Systems), and creating
ORACLE SIDs and Griffin Universes (for UNIX LINC Systems). (3) See also Griffin
Database Management Utility (GMU).
Development System
See LINC Development and LINC Generate.
Direct Component
A Component type that uses a key for direct access to the dataset, saving on the number of
Input/Output operations. It has a single numeric Ordinate with a maximum of 8 digits. See
Component.
Direct Report
(1) A specific type of Report that uses the LINC Report Output Control System (ROC), and
which sends output directly to an output device and not to the ROC database. (2) See also
LINC Report Output Control System. (3) Contrast with Standard Report.
Display item
A string of descriptive information displayed on an Ispec screen layout or Report Frame,
primarily used to inform the user which data items are which.
