This consists of a 3 digit number wh=ch should be entered on
all documents.
This shws the post town in which the addresses are located
but bear in m.lnd that this is not always the same aa the
geographical location. Often smsll towns or villages are
included In tha post town of the nearest large town or
city.
This sbwa the poetcode sector in which all the addreases
are located; It will consist of one or two letters and two
or three digitm. It in followed by the sector name. (The
nsme has been allocated by OPCS and IS not ns?anlngful to the
Post Office) . All the sampled postcodes on the address llst
will start with the same letters and numbers as the sector
printed here. A poatcode la, in fact, completed by the
adtitxon of two final letters to the postcade sector. Thus,
the sector may be shown as NR3 1 and the postcodes as NR3
lAA etc.

“DIVIDED ADDRESS” (See page 8 )
There is no heading to this column which shows the postal
district of the nampled address. This information is not
always given on the PAF, and therefore on many address llsts
it appears only intermittently. Nota that entries in this
column are llnked only to the address on that line (eg on
the example address list ‘Canwick’ applles only to 23-25
Long Rw’ and not to any other address on the llst).
l%is column lists the postcode (up to 7 characters) for each
sampled addreas.
If an entzy appears in this column it is an indication that
the addreas msy be multi-occupied, ie more than one
household IMY be 11 wing there. The number in the column
should be treated only as a rough gu>de to the number of
households you may axpect to f~nd at the address. There is
no guarantee that thin number is correct, and you Wi 11 still
ham to call at the address and identify the number of
househol&s livlng there. See section on MULTI-HOUSEHOLD
