HEALTHCARE FACILITIES
Through the District-based Health System the
Ministry of Health (MoH) approved a new
system in 1995 to improve and extend primary
healthcare. A district-based health system
comprises three levels: the first level or the
most peripheral is made up of the Operational
District serving approximately 100,000 –
200,000 population and consists of a referral
hospital and a network of health centers. Each
health center covers a population of 8,000 to
12,000. The second level or intermediate level
is made up of a provincial hospital and a
provincial health department. The third or
central level consists of MoH, national
institutes, national hospitals, national
programs and training institutions. Table
below illustrates the distribution of healthcare
facilities in Cambodia.
