HEALTHCARE FACILITIES<br />
Through the District-based <strong>Health</strong> System the<br />
Ministry of <strong>Health</strong> (MoH) approved a new<br />
system in 1995 to improve and extend primary<br />
healthcare. A district-based health system<br />
comprises three levels: the first level or the<br />
most peripheral is made up of the Operational<br />
District serving approximately 100,000 –<br />
200,000 population and consists of a referral<br />
hospital and a network of health centers. Each<br />
health center covers a population of 8,000 to<br />
12,000. The second level or intermediate level<br />
is made up of a provincial hospital and a<br />
provincial health department. The third or<br />
central level consists of MoH, national<br />
institutes, national hospitals, national<br />
programs and training institutions. Table<br />
below illustrates the distribution of healthcare<br />
facilities in Cambodia.<br />
