More importantly, no report, comprehensively addressing<br />

HCW at a regional level, covering 12 countries, especially, is<br />

available. This report is highly expected to be a valuable<br />

resource for the entire region, which provides evidence-based<br />

recommendations, good and bad experiences from other<br />

countries of similar economical status. It is ambitiously looked<br />

upon of being a good start in providing the impetus to improve<br />

the existing condition and aid in planning appropriate and<br />

uniform management system, introduce technology and<br />

capacity building for better healthcare waste management.<br />

On behalf of our team, I take this opportunity to<br />

thank the Ministry of the <strong>Environment</strong>, Japan for<br />

generously supporting this project and providing<br />

necessary monetary support and mobilizing<br />

information resources. Without their cooperation<br />

this study would not have been conceptualized and<br />

completed. We would like to extend our deep<br />

gratitude to ADB and TWGSHW for their<br />

unrelenting support for this project. Our deep<br />

gratitude is extended to all the representatives of the<br />

TWGSHW member countries for providing their<br />

thoughtful insights and critical information for the<br />

preparation of this report. We express our<br />

gratefulness to UNEP Regional Resource Centre for<br />

Asia and the Pacific, for diligently coordinating the<br />

data collection with TWGSHW and its member<br />

countries. Finally, we wish to express our warm and<br />
