The BRiTish council<br />
The purpose of the British Council is to build engagement and trust for<br />
the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people<br />
worldwide. It does this through its work in cultural relations.<br />
Why cultural relations?<br />
The British Council has been helping to address conflict and build longterm<br />
peace through cultural relations throughout its 75-year history. Our<br />
experience shows that cultural relations can be an effective tool in helping<br />
to build peace, as they encourage an appreciation of shared<br />
commonalities as well as an understanding of differences. People-topeople<br />
relationships can build an understanding and trust of others that is<br />
able to influence relationships between nations as well as major global<br />
issues. With a global reach into well over 100 countries and experience<br />
working with young people in all of them, the British Council is uniquely<br />
placed to address conflict and peace-building in this way.<br />
