CLAU DE W. OWEN HONORED<br />
P resident Eisenhower has appointed Claude W. Owen , form er pres ident of<br />
th e Wa shington Boar d of Trade, as a member of the Nat ional Capit al Planning<br />
Commission for a six-y ear term. Mr. Owen is a member of the Council of the<br />
American Clan Grego r Society.<br />
Mr. Owen, who is president of th e E. G. Schafer & Co. plumbing supply firm,<br />
will serve along with John A. Remon as the two District-resident members and<br />
will bring to the planning body wide experience in plannin g and civic matters. He<br />
was a member of the original Committee of One Hundred on the Federal City<br />
which in the 1920s prom oted passage of legislation sett ing up the planning commission.<br />
I n 1944, he headed a Citizens' Advi sor y Board on the Pian of the National<br />
Capita l and Env ir ons.<br />
President of the Board of Trade in 1933-4, he also is a form er pr esident<br />
of the Kiwanis Club of Wa shington, the one-time Security Finance Corporation<br />
and the Midd le Atlantic Wholesalers' Associati on, and is now president of the<br />
American Institut e of Wholesale P lumbing and Heatin g Supply Associations.<br />
A native of Gaithersburg, Md., Mr. Owen is a graduate of St. John' s College,<br />
Annapolis, and he obtain ed a law degree fr om the Geor ge Wa shington University' s<br />
Law School in 1910 and practiced law in Washington for severa l year s. In 1917<br />
he went into business with E. G. Schafer, became th e firm's first president and<br />
now owns it. H e lives at 4801 Colorado Avenue, N.W., W ashington, D. C.<br />

Your Registrar deeply regr ets the omission of the following eight names<br />
from her report of 1953 and published in the Year Book for <strong>1954</strong> :<br />
1142 Nathaniel Fugua Magruder, 504 W est Hill view Avenue, Sarasota, Florida.<br />
Mr. Magruder is the son of our members, Nathaniel Magruder and his<br />
wife H elen McKeneie, he son of H erman Bangs Magruder who married<br />
Harriet Fugua. Th e line is throu gh Jam es Trueman Magruder who<br />
married his cousin Elizabeth Ann Magr uder, he fr om the three Alexanders<br />
in line.<br />
1143 Miss Eli zabeth Courtney Stauffer , Box 21, Walkersville, F rederick<br />
County, Md., daught er of Simon Theodore Stauffer and his wife Clara<br />
Courtney Offutt. Hi s mother was Mati lda Noble Magruder, dau ghter of<br />
James Magruder and his wife E leanor Harwood, he son of Samuel<br />
Brewer Magr uder of "Samuel's Delight", whose first wife was Rebecca<br />
Magruder, a cousin.<br />
