flower s, trees and shrubs, many of these having been brought from old historic<br />

places. H is collection of roses was kn own throughout th e city.<br />

Tributes to his noble character have been received fr om friends fa r and wide<br />

and his death has left a vaca ncy in the hearts of his fr iends that can never be<br />

filled. He rests beside his "Bess" in H ollywood Cemetery, having passed into<br />

the great beyond on Sept. 24, <strong>1954</strong>.<br />

Surviving him are four sisters: Eliza Thrift Miller, Merr ie Virgi nia Street,<br />

Lavinia Magruder Voorhees, Louise Ma son Voorhees , and three brothers : Alfred<br />

Bell Ferneyhough, Benjamin Wood Ferneyhough, Dr. Robert Edward Ferneyhough.<br />

Dr. Battey died at his home in Ro me, Ga., on Dec. 14, <strong>1954</strong>, and was buried in<br />

Myrtle Hill Ceme tery. D r. Ba ttey was a brother of our member and former<br />

Councilman, George Magruder Battey , III.<br />

Mrs. Charles MacGregor, widow of the brother of our deceased member, J ohn<br />

Ala ster MacGregor, and aunt to many of our members from Stafford, Va ., died<br />

at her home in Stafford on Aug. 17, <strong>1954</strong>.<br />

Mr . John Edwin Muncaster, Sr., of "The Ridge" passed away on<br />

the morning of June 27, 1955. He was a Charter Membe r, No . 198 and a<br />

Life Membe r of the Clan, He ha s been an enthusiastic worker for the<br />

Clan since its founding in 1909, and served as Treasurer for 23 years,<br />

and was a member of the Council at the time of his death. A memorial<br />

will be in the next issue of the Year Book.
