AFTERNOON BUSI N ESS S ESSION<br />

Ocro BER 16, <strong>1954</strong><br />

The Forty-Fifth Annual Gatheri ng of the American Clan Gregor Society, Inc.,<br />

was called to orde r on October 16th at 3 o'clock P.M. by the Chieftain, Bri g. Gen.<br />

Mar shall Magru der, U.S.A., Retir ed.<br />

T he minutes of the Gathering in 1953 were omitted as a full report appeared<br />

in the current Year Book.<br />

The R egistrar, Mr s. O. O. van den Berg, was absent on account of illness;<br />

Miss Hill report ed for her, the twenty-eight new members.<br />

The H istorian, Miss Regina Magruder Hill , report ed eleven births, four marriages<br />

and seven death s. A few additional numbers will appear in the Year Book<br />

which were received a fte r th e meeting.<br />

The T reasurer, pro tem., Mr. Douglas Neil Magruder, read his Fi ve-Year<br />

Fin ancial Audit.<br />

The Chancellor, Miss C. Virginia Diedel, stated that the business affairs of<br />

the Clan are in perfect order. She added that we are indebted to our Chieft ain for<br />

the work he has done in connection with arousing interest through the State<br />

Deputy Chieftains. She requested donat ions to the "Endowment and Life Member ­<br />

ship Fund."<br />

Miss Hill, reporti ng for the Membership and Research Committee, stated<br />

that they have been work ing through the State Deput y Chieftain s in order to<br />

secure new members. She also spoke of the resear ch work that is being done on<br />

the genealogical charts, which is progre ssing very satisfactorily.<br />

The Chieitai» , Bri g. Gen. Marshall Magruder, gave statistics on th e cost of<br />

the Yea r Books over a period of five years and stated that for th e coming year<br />

we would need 525 books. He spoke br iefly on the work he has been doing with<br />

th e State Deputy Chief tains. H e took up and discussed, point by point, the reports<br />

of the various officers of the Society so that recommendations could be made for<br />

future work.<br />

T he seuen Recommendations and oll e Amendment to the Rules of the Council<br />

were read to thi s session and each voted on and appr oved.<br />

Th e report of the Nominating Committee was given by the Chairman, Mr.<br />

Thomas G. Magruder , Jr. As there were no nominat ions fr om the floor, Mi ss Hill<br />

moved that nominations be closed. Mr. Douglas Neil Magruder moved that the<br />

Secretar y cast one unanim ous vote for the slate as presented. The names of the<br />

officers as slated appear in the Minutes of the Council.<br />

A fte r the adjournment of th is session, Mr. and Mrs. H erbert T. Magruder<br />

treated us with the showing of stereopticon slides of the colored snapshots that<br />

they had tak en this past spring while they wer e visitin g in Scotland and were<br />

guests of our Hereditar y Chief , Sir Malc olm and Lady MacGr egor. These pictures<br />

were most interesting and we wish to thank Mr. and Mr s. Magruder for thi s<br />

entertainment feature.<br />

EVENI NG SESSION<br />

Clansmen, guests and friends began to assemble in the Burgundy Room about<br />

7 o'clock P .M., for dinner. Although "H urricane Hazel" played havoc in Washing-
